I dreamt of Tressa.
Such a beautiful girl. I was shocked to see her in my dreams. I had no idea what she looked like, what she sounded like, who she was. And yet, she appeared in my dreams so easily. She felt too real for comfort.
I found her while wandering my backyard during the summer. The pure sunlight speckled with floating dust creating a beautiful picture one might see in a photoshopped picture. The grass was uncut and thick with lush life. I stood in the middle of the large yard watching Tressa pick daisies from the small patch surrounding her. Her body shadowed by a white light as peace radiated off her in gentle waves.
I was sitting down next to her, picking the fragile daisies one by one before setting them into a pile. She wore her beautiful white dress that fit her form perfectly. Her thick golden spun hair pouring over her shoulders in gentle waves. Her soft pink lips parted in a soft smile. Her dark tan was warm as her skin glowed in the sunlight. Long eyelashes framed her eyes, fluttering every so often. Tressa slowly turned to me holding out a woven crown of daisies and dandelions.
She set it on my head before nodding gently.
"You must be Eve."
"I am."
Her eye softened, "How are they?"
I knew she was talking about the boys. So I answered.
"They stress me out."
She smiled with an amused expression. "Yes, they tend to do that."
I blinked. "They scare me."
Her smile faded before she lowered her head. Her fingers traced over her pile of daisies in her lap. She plucked off a single petal, rubbing it between her fingers before letting it flutter into the grass. "Yes... that too."
I remained quiet waiting for her to say something. My mind distant as I stared at the grassy field of sprouting wildflowers. "What are they?" I asked.
"They... are strange. There is no term to describe them. I am still unsure of what they are."
"Do you know where I am?"
"You are asking me the questions they won't answer, correct?"
I nodded without a second thought.
She laughed softly, "So honest in dreams." She sighed before gazing up at the summer sky. "They will answer you, soon enough. Gideon hates secrets and will tell if he gets annoyed enough. Gideon is quite transparent once you get to know him."
"I need to escape, Tressa. I don't have time to get to know them." I looked hopefully behind me, watching my blurry house. "I have to go home."
She laid a hand on my back. "I must ask this," she turned to look at me, "do you think that you could ever help them?"
"Help them? With what?"
Tressa's lips pressed together. She picked up another daisy and placed it in the center of my palm. "They are more human than they want to believe. They have had... issues at an early age. Too painful to cope with. If you could convince them... If you could reach them somehow... I know this is far too much to ask of you. But please consider it. You have already seen a heart in each, all you must do is try."
"They want to kill me."
"Not all is what it seems, Eve. Have you considered their defensiveness due to my death?" Her eyes softened, "Do you think that perhaps, this is a defense mechanism to avoid being hurt yet again?"
