"And that's how I met my husband," I finish happily, grinning widely at the children. "Pretty interesting, right?"
Harley, the oldest of three of his siblings, stands up before scowling at me. His thick black hair has grown long over his eyes with chilling ice blue eyes. "I don't believe you," he begins sharply, "there's no such thing as another world. You just made that up!"
"Shh don't be mean to Nana..." his eight-year-old sister, Rey hisses. "If she wants to believe that's how she met Pappy then let her believe that!" She shoots him a look before quickly smiling at me. "Uh yes, Nana. That's... exactly what happened!" Her ringlet black hair brushes over her shoulders. She has a narrow figure like her Pappy with light skin.
"Nana, did you really meet a prince?" the youngest asks in awe. She sits on my lap with wide ice blue eyes. "He sounds pretty."
"She's just making up crap!" Harley announces loudly.
Tessa, pokes her head into the shadowed living room with a warning look. "Language, Harley." She flashes me an apologetic look before walking in with another platter of Christmas cookies. "Sorry Mom, I'd like to say he was raised better than this but his friends have been a bad influence lately." She sighs tiredly before setting cookies on the coffee table. "Were we ever this difficult?" she asks with a tired smile.
I smirk before shrugging. "Bas was more the troublemaker. You just followed what he did most of the time."
Tessa smiled to herself as she sat down on the couch. "He doesn't seem like that now though."
"He's calmer now," I explain as I begin to bounce little Lizzy on my knee. "More like his father."
A sudden shriek comes from across the house followed by manic laughter. "I AM COMING TO FIND YOU!"
The shrieks turn into hysterical laughter. A deeper laugh grows louder as I begin to hear loud stomping. "I AM GOING TO EAT YOU, LITTLE PRINCESS! YOU AND YOUR LITTLE PUPPY TOO!"
"Eeeck!" Evalyn sprints across the room from the dark hallway, screaming and laughing happily. Her hair flies behind her as she runs around the couch and dives behind it. From the depths of the hallway, a hulking figure stomps down it growling lowly.
"I'm coming..." he sings darkly, "I'm coming to get you, little princess..."
He comes into the light revealing none other than Gideon. His thick brown hair has thinned over the years and laughs lines spread from his always lovely golden brown eyes. He stands tall and healthy despite old age, but then again, these boys aged gracefully considering they are technically eighty now. It's not even fair anymore.
He cracks his famous smile as he stomps through the living room. He flashes me a smug look before pointing at the couch. I nod at him with a soft smile. Gideon chuckles softly before lumbering around the room like a hulking gorilla. "I smell a little princess... where could she be?" he muses loudly.
A tiny giggle sounds from behind the couch.
Gideon pauses before pressing his finger to his lips, sharing a sly look with me. Then he dives behind the couch and tackles Evalyn and proceeds to tickle her. Evalyn shrieks with delight, rolling around on the ground in her princess pajamas, before trying to tickle him back. Gideon surrenders and lets her tickle his stomach, rolling onto his back and pleading for mercy.
"Ah! She found my weakness! Help!" he shouts playfully as she sits down on his stomach. She giggles loudly before raising her fist in the air. "The little princess wins!" she cheers happily.
"Oh the horror," Gideon cries dramatically before going limp. "I'm dead now. She killed the mighty beast." He closes his eyes before sticking his tongue out, playing dead.
