Quitting

"My boss is my father. He schedules my performances, I do the performing, we both get paid: It's a system we've been using for a few years now. He went to school to major in the field of music and he got a masters degree in teaching it. Growing up, everything was about music, it was all that he knew. He told me that I was gifted with a beautiful voice that was meant for singing. I remember doing my first show, I loved it so much and I just wanted to do it again. I told my father that I'll make him proud, that I didn't care about anything else but pursuing this career. I really thought I could do it this forever, but the love for what I do was dying out. The more money we made, the more it got to his head. I worked endless hours in writing music, practicing songs, having performances back to back that I eventually had no life outside of work. All it did was get worse, up to the point where I'm at now. I'm stuck in this situation where I have to chose between his happiness and mine. He threatens to take all the money and cut ties with me as his son, but if I keep working for him then all is well."
"No, all isn't well! Suga, listen to yourself. This business isn't about you anymore, it's about him. Look I know it's not going to be easy but you need to quit this job."
"Excuse me? Who said anything about that? This job I have is all thanks to him, my father is my boss!"
"So what if he's your father?! He's using you to get money. The job isn't about choosing between your happiness and his, it's between his wealth and your entire life as an individual person."
"Daichi, if I give up this damn job I literally have nothing left for me! He'll take all the money away from me, everything I earned through years and years of working my ass off. He's the closest family I have. Don't you see that? Without this, I have nothing." Not realizing it at first, tears began to form and were streaming down his face. I pull him close to me and let him cry on my shoulder. He's been keeping all of this to himself for god knows how long and to finally talk about it had lifted some of the weight off his shoulder.
"Without the job, you'll have more than you did before. You'll have your own life back. You'll have Asahi, Bokuto, and Kuroo. You'll have me."
"You're right. I guess that's why I came to you because I knew you'd be there when I needed you most."

Hours later after getting drunk off of wine and having sloppy make out sessions, we started talking about things again. We were both laying in bed with nothing on but bath robes. He had his head resting on my chest as we both stared up at the ceiling, thinking.
"Tell me Daichi, do you like the job you have?"
"Truthfully, no, I don't. I moved here from Japan and an old friend from junior high got his dad to hire me. Having that connection, he dumps more work onto me than my actual boss does. It's a regular office job but I started hating it after I was being given more work to do that I wasn't getting paid for."
"What if we both quit our jobs tomorrow? What if we just said "fuck it, I quit this job" and didn't look back."
"Listen, I might be drunk right now, but not enough to think that an idea like that would do us any good."
"Think about it; you hate your job and I hate my job. What should we do? Quit the jobs we hate! Easy. Besides you're the one that even said we should quit our jobs."
"I said you should quit yours. If we both quit our jobs, we'd both be screwed. I wouldn't have enough money to support the both of us."
     "Wait, what do you mean?"
"You said that if you quit your job then you lose everything, but you'll have me. And if we both quit our jobs, we'll both have nothing."
"I'll hire you. You'll be my new boss. I'll have the same job with a different boss."
"Would that be a good idea though? I like to keep my relationships outside of work."
"Daichi lets do it. We both call our bosses to have a drink at Crows after work. Together we'll quit our jobs."
"We're too drunk to make any decisions right now, we're just talking nonsense."
"I'm not too drunk to understand that I want to have a better life and that my work is holding me back from it. My work is holding me back from everything. It's holding me back from you." He sits up to look at me, and we stare at each other thinking of what to do with this whole job situation. He leans down, and I gaze into his shimmering eyes as they look back at mine. He slowly leans in closer for a kiss and with being contempt, he smiles. "Daichi, whatever we decide to do, as long as I'm with you, I think I'll be alright. That most likely means I'll have to quit my job in order for me to get what I want. Which means losing all the money I earned, and even cutting ties with the only close family I have."
"I'll keep my job, I can stand being with my boss. But I'll leave you to decide what to do with your job. Your situation sucks, and I'm sorry about that. But if you were to go through with quitting, I'll put a roof over your head and support you."
      "Thank you, Daichi.."
