Slam Poetry 2- A Letter To Society

Dear Society, 

Are you proud of the things you've done? Are you proud of all the social constructs, the hate, the pain you have created? If I were you I would be ashamed, in fact I am ashamed for you. Society, you are blind, you are hateful. Society what have you taught people? You taught us about beauty...and fuck you for that. Beauty is a social construct. What makes us beautiful? Long blond hair thats flows to our waist, bright blue eyes, light porcelain skin? Having big boobs, with small waist, and a white tooth smile? No. Beauty is a social construct, no matter what you look like you will be judged. If people find you beautiful they will hate you. If people don't find you beautiful they will hate you. No matter what people will judge you, and if you are too pretty or not pretty enough then they will hate you. They will judge you if you are too fat, if you are too skinny, if you are too pale, or if you are too dark, if you are too tall or if you are too short, they will always judge you. Society, you have killed people, you have hurt people. Society you make boys and girls deny themselves food, you make them hunched over the scale, counting down the numbers to go. But do not worry, you have done a lot more then teach us about beauty, but you taught us about love...and fuck you for that. You taught us that a girl has to love a boy and a boy has to love a girl, you taught us a boy and a girl have to love each other, and fit perfectly together like a puzzle piece, you taught us that love is like fireworks, and that there is always a happy ever after. Well news flash, it isn't. Love comes with disagreements, and fights, and usually its never forever, you have to go through many people to find your forever, and even so you may never find them. You taught us two people of the same sex, opposite race, different body types can't love each other, and I hate you for that. You taught us to believe in love in first sight, well...it doesn't exist. Love at first sight, is called lust. You just like the way someone looks, you don't love them, you are just attracted to them, but you don't know them, so how can you love them? You can't love someone you don't know. So society, what have you got to say? Im listening..nothing. Thats what. Don't worry society you have also taught us something else! You taught us about being smart. If you get good grades in school you are known as the nerd, or the smarty pants or teachers pet, but HELLO! The smart ones are the ones everyone will end up working for one day, they will be the ones to save your life, they will be the doctors and business owners while the ones who didn't do so well, who were known as the "cooler" kids back then will work for them. Who's cool now? But don't worry I am just getting started! Society has seem to tell us we all have to learn one way, notice how every teacher teaches the same way? With boring lectures, and slide shows, and a crap ton of homework? Ya well believe it or not folks not everyone learns that way! And for the ones who don't learn that way they are the ones who struggle and fall behind and society makes fun of them for that whenever they get an answer wrong. So tell me society, are you proud of the things you've done?
