When Two Unlikely Worlds Meet, Seokjin x Normani

Chapter Twenty Five

It was their third monthly doctor's appointment, they had scheduled the appointment on the same date as Jin's brother and his wife. Jin's brother had missed the previous months appointment to complete work that would need delivery in the next four-months window for their family's company. His wife's due date was by then in three months. He would be taking a month off after the delivery to assist with providing infant care. Jin's sister in law was now also seeing a neonatal specialist for a spinal formation concern that had been discovered during one of the tests conducted earlier in the pregnancy. Along with that, they had moved her under the care of a high-risk obstetrician to now monitor her progress until the delivery date. Jin was concerned about this appointment as they would be doing some tests to see how Normani and the baby were faring with the pregnancy. After the news about his unborn niece's potential medical concern, he was worried about a possible genetic link and if that could impact his unborn child. He escorted Normani to the laboratory and diagnostic testing department at the hospital to get the bloodwork done, then they went for their ultrasound scan. There, the doctor greeted them cordially, a BTS fan himself, he was happy to get the opportunity to meet a member of the group and so was the nurse working with him. Soon the nurse and Jin had Normani lying on the examination table ready for the radiologist to return to do the scan. Normally they would have a technician doing the test, however given Jin's concerns, they had arranged for the doctor to be present for his comfort in the service they were receiving from the medical team.

Explaining to the soon to be parents what the process of the scan would entail, the doctor moved to apply the gel on the exposed section of Normani's midriff, adjusting the probe to begin analyzing the necessary images indicative of appropriate fetal development. He did this while explaining what he was doing to the expectant parents who were now staring at the screen, amazed with the explanation and soon the sound of the baby's heartbeat. Suddenly, the doctor stopped mid-sentence to look closely at something that had just shown up on the screen, he moved to inspect the area closely. Turning to the now anxious parents, he said, "well, I'm not sure how to say this, but it seems you two may need to start making changes to some of the plans you have made." Worried with the turn in the conversation, Jin and Normani thinking something was wrong with their baby too, asked in perfect unison, "Is the baby okay doctor?" Jin followed that with, "you don't see anything wrong with our baby, do you doctor?" Shaking his head to assuage their concern, the now smiling doctor congratulates them saying, "it seems that you will be getting two for the price of one this time." Confused, Normani asked the doctor to explain what that meant. The doctor turns back to the monitor to point out to them, while explaining, the first baby and then moves on to show the location of the second baby that had been hidden from view previously.

"Twins!" Jin and Normani say together, staring at the doctor in shock and then at each other in disbelief. Jin did not know of any twins in his family history and asked if Normani had some in her family perhaps. Normani still in shock and awe, responded, "not that I'm aware of oppa." They then hugged each other in joy at news. The doctor then explained both babies progress and measurements, cautioning them that with twin pregnancies it was not unusual for the mothers to be followed by a high-risk obstetrician for their care. The radiologist then sent them back to their regular doctor. By this time, Jin's brother, his wife and their mother were done with their appointments for the day and called to see if they were almost done. Jin still having not processed the fact that he would be a father of two, told his mother they had one more appointment before they were done and to wait for them in the waiting area outside their doctor's office. The next appointment took less time than anticipated, Normani was asked routine questions, had her blood pressure, weight, temperature and new concerns monitored. With that, the doctor congratulated them on the impending twin birth and scheduled their next follow up appointment.
