WE'LL BE OKAY
Summary: the world is brighter when he has kyungsoo by his side
//
kim jongin finds out that the world isn't made up of beautifully coloured rainbows and dreams at the TENDER age of twelve. he finds out that life is harder beneath the surface when his mother comes up to him one afternoon and says, "it's either your father or me."
it'd been simple enough for the then twelve year old boy to realize where his life was headed and what in the world was going on in his storm filled family.
kim jongin is thirteen when he meets do kyungsoo in a seperate neighbourhood he never thought he'd find himself in. he meets the older male whilst he's trying to find his way to the nearest convenience store and it's funny how friendship WORKS because despite the awkward silences and introductions, jongin is sure he finds a friend in kyungsoo.
they go to the same school (which honestly isn't a big surprise since the town is so small) and jongin finds himself latching onto kyungsoo. it's not weird because kyungsoo doesn't make it weird. kyungsoo openly accepts jongin and all his weird quirks, his funny sideway smiles and his odd habit of blinking when nervous.
when jongin turns fourteen he falls in love with dancing. he doesn't tell anybody this but kyungsoo - he doesn't even tell his mother. because he's in love with ballet. he's in love with jazz. he's in love with the way his body can move so fluidly to the music and how he gets easily lost in it.
kyungsoo doesn't even question it. he doesn't even make a snide remark when he finds out that jongin has a passion for something that doesn't quite suit his image.
kyungsoo just smiles and laughs and says, "you're great," when he sees jongin doing a perfect pirouette. jongin is fourteen when he realizes that the smile on kyungsoo's face shouldn't be making him as flustered as he is.
the first time kyungsoo cries because of jongin is when he sprains his ankle and he misses his CHANCE at a small dance competition. it's not a big event but it's jongin's first stepping stone. kyungsoo cries the hardest, eyes red and mouth faltering when he looks at the bandages covering up jongin's left ankle and the way his friend has to limp to get from one place to another.
"i practiced too hard," jongin says, trying to reassure his older friend but kyungsoo CONTINUES to cry.
"it's not fair," the older male whimpers.
"it'll be okay," jongin tries to smile but he feels himself on the verge of tears as well, voice choking up. "i'll be okay," he manages to whisper before he finds himself tearing up as well.
"it's not fair jongin."

it's during spring when he's sixteen years old that he realizes he's in love with kyungsoo. he doesn't know why or when it began but he's sure that between the awkward glances, the soft smiles and unspoken words, he's fallen in love.
kyungsoo is seventeen and ready to take on the world and it's then when it hits jongin that he wants to stay by kyungsoo's side forever. he wants to be the one to keep his best friend happy.
but it's weird when they're both well - male - and even weirder because the last time he'd checked he was very much into girls. kyungsoo is not a girl.
kyungsoo doesn't have long flowy hair or soft fingers or an s line but kyungsoo has the sweetest laugh and the prettiest smile and a heart made out of pure GOLD.
jongin is sure he wants to be with kyungsoo forever.
confessing is the hardest thing to do when you're not too sure if the other party feels the same way. but confessing to kyungsoo isn't as scary. kyungsoo is sweet and open and jongin feels so comfortable around him that it's refreshing.
