"WHO THE HELL ARE YOU AND WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING?" boomed Viren's voice, bursting the little bubble of comfort I had been in, with Dev. You haven't panicked yet. It's because of him– a small voice in my head told me. He could have chased after Viren but he didn't.

Next to me, Dev stood upright facing Viren and said, "Viren."

"Wait a minute – you're that client's brother!" exclaimed Viren with a snarl. "I won't ask a third time – What are you doing here?" he spat.

"I.. needed to... talk? To Deeksha" said Dev. He sounded so unsure of himself that I immediately caught on with his plan. The Dev I know would NEVER seem that unsure of himself no matter how insecure or unsure he felt about himself.

"Oh! Really? What about?!" asked Viren, not believing a word.

"Umm... I.. Uh..." said Dev, scratching the back of his neck – seemingly embarrassed.

"DEV!!!" I cried when I saw Viren pull out a pistol from somewhere behind him, alerting Dev.

"Finally – the response I've been looking for!!" said Viren, with an unmistakably manic gleam in his eyes as he walked closer to Viren.

"Viren – What are you doing?" asked Dev, appearing to be scared but his body ready to fight Viren physically if needed.

"YOU. DON'T. GET. TO. ASK. QUESTIONS, Dev," said Viren and after a pause, added, "Why are you really here?"

With his hands raised in defence, Dev began rambling, "Look – I have no idea what is going on here – but I was trying to confess to Deeksha in the parking lot of the marriage hall before you came, that I like her. A LOT. But she seemed distracted by work and then you came and offered to help her – and I didn't get to tell her. So I followed you guys, hoping that I will get to tell her once she reaches office. But like.. I got a call in between – so I had to stop – so it took me longer than you guys to reach here. I swear I don't know what's going on – but I like Deeksha and I JUST told her that."

If I hadn't known Dev, I would have definitely believed his story. Had I known he could act like this, I might have fallen for him in school! Or not.. quiet, as he was.

With Viren within five feet of us, I decided to turn his focus to me, by shrieking, "Viren – why do you have a gun?"

"Dear Lord, Deeksha! Are you that daft?!?! I just tried to kidnap you, DAMNIT! And had this joker not followed us, no one would have known!" he snaps at me.

Before either Deven or I can respond to that, a car comes zooming to where we are and before it comes to a complete halt, out jumps Harsh and the girl who was getting paly with Dev at the Engagement.

She's his cousin – the rational half of my brain said. Then, all at once, a number of things happened.

Viren ran to my side of the car, unlocked it and clambered – in which meantime, Dev tried to open the door on my side of the car. Though a struggle, Viren had already started the car when the door finally pried open under Dev's strength. In the background, I saw a second Jeep full of policemen come to a halt behind the car in which Harsh and Dev's cousin had just arrived.

The car had just started moving, when I realized Dev had been calling my name the entire time, asking me to get out of the car. Frozen, I couldn't so much as look at him as Viren got the car moving. Owing to my good fortune or just the timing, before the speed got too high, a pair of hands pulled me out of the now open door and both of us stumbled backwards and fell.

Viren, naturally surprised at this unforeseen intervention, let out a yelp, before losing control of the vehicle which went and crashed into a nearby tree that lined the road.

The last thing I saw felt before I was overwhelmed by darkness was the strength in the arms that encased me and held onto me as if for dear life. Dev's.
