Mistakes and Lessons

After Carlos dropped me off, Dj showed up maybe a half hour later.

"Hey, come on in. I made some popcorn for maybe an old time movie night?" I nervously smiled.

Dj smiled, "of course."

I grabbed the popcorn out of the microwave and placed it in a big bowl.

Aunt leila was gonna be gone for the night. 

So it was just Dj and I at the house.

Carlos would definitely not approve.

He will be home around eleven though.

I look through our box of movies, and there's this movie labeled,

"Carson Reina Brooks, and Aleana Nicole Brooks, BFF time."

I never saw this movie in my entire life.

I push it in the old vcr.

I was seven years old and aleana was eleven.

Dj and Alexa are in this video, along with Aleanas friend Raul.

Some other little kid was in the video. Looked about Aleanas age.

It showed we were playing in our kiddie pool.

"Awww look at us Carson, we crushed on each other back then" Dj said.

I smiled and continued to watch.

I reach in for some popcorn and my hand touches his.

For some reason I didn't even move my hand.

Instead I let him move his.

This kid in the video looked familiar.

"Luis! Don't put sand in my hair!" Alexa screamed.

Dj sits up, and looks at me.

"What?" I say, as I put some popcorn in my mouth.

His facial expression shows confusion.

"Carson. Luis isn't someone new, he's someone old."

I look closer at the video.

That is Luis.  Luis Martinez. The one who beat me. He's been part of my whole life.

He's the guy who molested me as a child. Why didn't I ever notice?

"Carson are you ok?" Dj asks.

"No.  Hold me please." I say.

Carlos walks in, "I've been let go early toni...."

He pauses and looks at the screen, while I'm hunched over crying and Dj holding me.

"What happened dj?" He asks pushing my hair back and comforting me.

Dj shakes his head, " She has to tell you. I cant."

I nod, " tell him I cant."

Dj said something that I'll never forgive him for.

"We fucked, and she feels bad."

With that I got up and slapped the shit out of him.

"Get the fuck out now."

Dj smirked and gladly walked out of the door.

"What really happened was, I found our Luis hasn't just newly been in my life..."

I begin to cry harder.

"He molested me as a kid babe."

The room fell silent, and everything went dark.

***wow, Luis wasn't someone new, but someone from the past.
