"Why did WICKED call me the mistake?" I ask Alyssa as she hands me some water we were rationing for our "small" trip that felt way too long.
"Because you weren't supposed to be in the Maze trials"
"Then why didn't they just kill me"
"Because as time went on they found it hard to get you killed and you became useful to them"
I scoff, "of course I did"
That was as much conversation as I wanted to get out.
~~
It felt like two hours had already come and gone and we were still walking around these dry, empty tunnels.A mechanical type sound is suddenly brought to my attention,
"What was that?" I ask myself as I stop dead in my tracks,
AJ and Michael do the same, all I could hear was silence and see nothing but darkness in both directions.
"It's nothing Rose, let's keep going" Michael says as he pulls on my arm gently and brings me to stand in front of him.
AJ shines the torch behind us, the light stops a fair way away, showing nothing but webs and dirt.
I sigh, I was sure I heard something.
I cock my head to the side for a second before walking forward, maybe it was just in my head.
I hear it again, a metal spur, metal against concrete, it was an all too familiar sound.
"Stop, Stop!" I yell. My voice echoing through the tunnels.
"Turn off the torches, quick"
"Rose-" Michael begins,
"Just, hurry up" I cut him off.
AJ turns off her light, then so does Michael.
"AJ, can I please have your light? Both of you stay quiet and still"
I feel the cool metal of a torch in the palm of my hand and take a firm hold of it.
We wait in silence, the same noise bursts to life. A little faster now, it was coming from my left.
Please be wrong! I tell myself as I hover my thumb over the switch on the torch.
I turn it on and there it was, in all its glory.
A disgusting griever, the creature I thought I had been able to leave behind in the maze.
"Stick to the walls... and run!" I yell.
We sprint, my hand lightly touching the wall.
"How far left of the tunnel?" I yell over the loud metal noises the griever was currently making.
"I don't know, it can't be too far!" AJ yells.
I shine the torch on both of them, AJ's blondish hair was the first thing to stand out. I shone it away and saw the approaching Griever, it was catching up at a fast pace.
Michael shone the light down the tunnel, a rusted metal ladder stood at the end.
"We just have to make it up and out using the ladder, hurry!" Michael yells before we all print faster.
AJ was the first to reach the ladder and begin climbing when doin struck, a loud creak came from the ladder before any one of us could even get out, the thinner metal snapping and sending AJ to the hard concrete floor below, a loud thud echoing through the tunnel. Michael and I made it AJ and helped her up.
The griever came to a stop, knowing we couldn't run now, I look around for anything. I looked down at the ladder, the part that had snapped was rusted and surprisingly sharp. I look up at the griever and then to Michael.
"Hurry, pick up the metal ladder but keep it still until I yell" I say as I pick up a side.
The griever began to charge, the space between us small and it was closing at a rapid speed. I counted in my head
1,2,3
"Run forward!" I yell, and we do.
A loud squelching noise was heard and a squeal. I couldn't bear to have my eyes open so I closed them, please tell me it was green monster killed and not human.
