Ever since she was captured, the boy was unable to eat or sleep properly. He would sit in front of his meal and stare at it until someone forced him to eat. "You'll starve to death," his friends said.
But he didn't care.
Because all he cared about was her. And now she's gone.
He couldn't fall asleep at night, because the nightmares kept him up. He would wake up at least half a dozen times, his clothes drenched in cold sweat and dried tears on his face. It had been so long since he cried. But now he cries every single night, when no one can see his tears or hear his sobs.
He would think of her face, her touch, her smile. He missed her. When she smashed that tracker underneath her foot, he felt his heart break into a thousand pieces, and nothing could ever piece it back again.
When he looked in the mirror, all he could see was a shell of who he was before. Without her, he felt incomplete.
The day after the mission, the boy went up to his father, begging him to give him a chance to bring her back. To set out on a mission of his own and rescue the girl he loved. But of course, he refused to let him go. He refused to let his own son waste his time and resources.
In his anguish, the boy jumped off the tallest level of the building of TCD, falling into the Central Court 10 stories below. The jump would have killed a normal person. But the boy isn't normal.
The boy's healing powers made it impossible for him to die, and so he pieced himself back together, bone by bone, muscle by muscle. He bled and screamed and begged for the pain to stop, but even his father refused to pity him.
Nobody was able to take away his pain. Not the pain from the jump, but the pain in his heart. Every time he thought of the girl, it was like a dagger stabbing into his chest.
So he decided to start writing a journal. He didn't want to type the entries into his watch...no, it felt too unreal. He went to the mall downstairs and bought a small, navy leather bound notebook. He sat in his room for hours, staring at the blank page, not knowing what to write. He had never written a journal entry before.
His very first journal entry was on the night he jumped.
8/12: I tried to kill myself today.
He frowned down at his shaky handwriting. This needs more detail, he thought.
8/12: I tried to kill myself today by jumping off a building. It didn't work.
From then on, he started writing every day, and soon, the pain in his heart lessened as he poured out his emotions onto paper. His friends saw that he seemed to be in better spirits, and told him to stop worrying and just let her go.
But he couldn't.
He would never.
He would never, ever forget her.
And someday, he would get her back.
And when they were finally together, he would hold her close, until the end of days.
At least, that was what he promised to himself.
So holding on to that hope, he endured the brutal training, his father's coldness, and his own pain. He'd do anything for her.
Anything.
