Lyanna's POV

I wake up...in another room, except this time I'm resting on a soft bed with light purple blankets.

In fact, the whole room seems to be themed purple and pink. I frown and rise from the bed, walking over to the window. That's when I realize that I no longer have my manacles on, and someone bathed and dressed me in new clothes: a light blue T-shirt and cotton pajama shorts.

Suddenly, I hear the door open, and I whirl around. A guy about my age walks in, dressed in military uniform with a gun strapped onto his belt. He's surprisingly good looking, with light brown hair and green eyes. His arms are crossed over his chest, and he stares at me, unsmiling.

I stare back boldly at him, then open my mouth to speak. "Excuse me, but who are you? Couldn't you have knocked first?"

To my utter astonishment, he rolls his eyes at me dramatically. "Get dressed, Princess, the President is waiting for you," he responds sarcastically.

Princess? Why does he have the nerve to call me nicknames? Who is this person?

"First of all, don't call me Princess," I snap. He gives me an arrogant smirk, leaning against the doorframe. "I'll call you whatever I want. Now go get dressed and I'll bring you downstairs in half an hour." Then he turns and leaves, not even bothering to close the door behind him. "Wait!" He turns back, and raises his eyebrows, looking at me expectantly. "What's your name?"

"Cole."

"Cole...what?"

"Cole Gray."

Oh my god.

It's the President's son.

After showering and putting on my new outfit, I'm standing in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection. The crop top I chose was tiny, meant to fit a petite person. I had expected it to fit me, but I didn't expect it to hang off my now unusually thin frame. I look thin and frail, a far cry from what I looked like when I was training with Adrius.

Adrius. Thinking about him makes my heart lurch with pain.

Even the jean shorts, a size zero, feels loose around my waist and thighs. My waist looks like it shrunk by at least an inch. I sigh and look away from the mirror, hating the fact that I look like an entirely different person now. I can only hope that I look confident enough when I finally face the President.

I pull my hair up into a ponytail, and sit cross legged on my bed, not knowing what to do. I start thinking about Cole, and the way he told me his name. Cole. Cole Gray.

I have no idea how I'm supposed to react to this. Should I be nervous? Afraid? Honestly, he doesn't seem that intimidating. He seemed friendly, nice even, despite his cocky attitude.

But his father...

President Gray must have sent his son to my room for a reason. Is it to befriend me? To trick me into letting my guard down? Or is he plotting something else? Something sinister...

I swallow hard, tucking a flyaway strand of hair behind my ear. I have no friends here. No backup. All I can depend on is myself. But how am I supposed to deal with the most powerful man in the nation, with an army at his beck and call?

The door flies open again, and Cole walks in, interrupting my thoughts. "Wow, Princess. You clean up nicely." I barely glance at him as I hurry to put on the brand new sneakers they've given me. I don't want to be late to whatever meeting the President has planned for me.

Cole leads me out into the hallway, and I take one last look at my reflection in the mirror, making sure my ponytail is neat and my shirt is worn properly. He closes the door with a soft thud, and starts walking down a long, winding staircase. Then we weave through about half a dozen corridors until arriving at a large dining area with a large, marble table in the center. President Gray is seated at the end of the table, with steaming plates of food placed in front of him. There is only one other chair at the table, which is right next to his.

Taking a deep breath, I sit down, folding my hands across my lap and trying to appear as dignified as possible. I can feel cold sweat trickling down the back of my neck, and my hands shaking under the table.

President Gray peers closely at me with his beady eyes, and I flinch away, eyeing him in disgust. "What do you want from me?"

"Hmm. I believe we have a lot to discuss, my dear Ms. Collins."

"Like what." My words are clipped, making my sentence sound more like a statement and not a question.

"Like your little boyfriend."

I leap up from my seat, my fist aiming for his face, but then my hand freezes in midair. I look around the room full of teenage soldiers, and wonder which one of them is using their powers on me. "Don't you dare talk about him like that," I gasp as my hand is released. It falls limp to my side, and I return to my seat, cheeks flaming in anger.

"We'll see about that," The President replies calmly. "But first, let's enjoy our meal. The food looks delicious, doesn't it?"
