"Okay class. I'll now pick this week's helpers."

Everyone hushed as Mr. Yurimoto placed his coveted bowl of names on his desk. While Mr. Yurimoto was shuffling through the names, you were busy gazing out the window and watching the squirrels quarrel in the yard.

Mr. Yurimoto unfolded the first slip of paper, "Higashikata."

A roar of murmurs spread across the room, mostly among the girls. The energy in the room intensified as Mr. Yurimoto's hand pulled out the second slip. The room went deathly quiet,

"(l/name)."

You snapped your gaze from the window, "Yes...?"

"You've been picked for class duties," Mr. Yurimoto said.

Your face burned as all the girls stared at you in envy, "Oh, ok..."

Mr. Yurimoto nodded and straighten his posture, "Continuing from our previous lesson..."

You sighed in relief as everyone turned thier attention to the teacher. More importantly, away from you. Unfortunately, your relief was short lived.

"(l/name). Would you pass out these worksheets please?"

Your heart sank in your stomach and you sat frozen in your seat.

"Today, (l/name)," he said with a sigh.

You swallowed, your classmates snickering at you. With wobbly legs, you stood and shuffled your way to the front. The jealous teens' stares pierced you to near paralysis.

'Why me?' you thought as you picked up the thick stack of papers. You stared at the papers and made your way to the right of the room, handing out a copy to whoever sat at the desk.

"Hey," a voice suddenly whispered beside you.

With great reluctance, you tore you eyes away from the stack, looking towards the direction of the voice. With just one look, you instantly recognized the boy's face: Josuke Higashikata.

The pompadour-clad teen gestured you to hand over the stack, communicating with his eyes. Their cool cerulean hue seemed to calm you and you gladly handed him the stack. He mouths the word 'go', to which you gladly responded and rushed back to your seat.

You searched outside for something , anything to distract you from your jumpy nerves. However, you found yourself and your gaze aimed at Josuke. All the girls zealously thanking him as he passed out their worksheets.

To be completely honest, you had long labeled him as a stereotypical cool-boy: vain and self-centered. However, what he just did seemed to contradict that.

As if he heard your thoughts, he turned his attention to you. His face was dull, but his eyes were intently focused on you. You felt your cheeks burn and you quickly averted your eyes back to the window, secretly staring at his reflection.

'What a weird guy.'

~

You studied your classmates as they flooded out the classroom, all eager to chat with their friends and get back home.
