Scarlett in California
She dug through the garbage as if her life depended on it. Well in this case, it did.
I shivered at the sight of her baggy and worn out clothes. Her tan face, powdered with dirt. I slowly walked up to her and her eyes widen at my sight.
"Hi..." I trail off. She looks me up and downs as if I'm some statue of wonder, "Is your name Elena Reese?" I ask her.
She stares at me intently before answering, "Why does it matter?" she asks skeptically.
I sigh heavily, "I... I think you could be my mother," I finished, closing my eyes for a few seconds. I peeked one open and I saw her start to run away with a rusted old banana in one hand, "Hey! Get your ass back here!" I muttered that last part to myself, knowing damn well she probs wouldn't come back if she heard.
I caught up with her in no time, "Look here little girl, I'm not your mother..." she trails off, avoiding eye contact. I can tell she was lying.
"Yes you are, I can see it in your eyes," I spat and she scoffed.
"Oh can you? How can you see in those fancy pants glasses?" she scowled me then her face softens, "Where do you live...?" she asks in wonder.
I scoffed, "New York," I stated proudly.
She nodded, deep in thought, "I'm sorry... do you want to talk about it," she says and I smile and nod.
I was going to have a mother again.

"Scarlett..." I say, getting up from my spot on the floor, to rush over and hug the life out of her.
She stood still with her arms to her side and I let go, giving her a look of confusion. She stared back with an unpleasant facial expression.
"What? You just run away without telling anyone and come back with closed arms?" I state, the anger boiling inside me.
"I left a note," she bluntly states and I scoff.
"Oh, I'm so sorry dear sister, a note makes it so much better!" I shout, letting all my frustration out. She didn't change at all. For all we know, she could've been in California doing bad and Scarlett stuff... not getting better, not fixing anything.
"Wow, it's actually true... they're both live in the flesh," whispered Tyrone, but I can still hear him from my doorway.
"I didn't want to disturb you, besides... I brought someone," she says and I scoff. Of course she did. Another boy, who is surprised.
"We'll tell him he can sleep on the street!" I shout and tears well up in her eyes.
"You're such a bitch," she mutters and I shake my head.
"And here I was thinking the same thing," I look down to my feet. Silence fills the room and someone clears their throat behind me.
"Welcome home sis?" Jonah speaks up and Scar rolls her eyes.
"Elena! There's people upstairs, but they don't act anything like my family," she dramatically says. Wait... Elena?
A middle aged woman appears at my bedroom door and I'm taken by surprise. My mouth forms an 'o' and now I begin to feel like a bitch for saying she can sleep on the street. But then again, why did Scar get so mad about it? Unless this lady is homeless or something.
Oh...
"Hi Alexandria," she smiles, as do I.
"Hi, Elena," I shake her hand.
