『 14 | Sell 』
❝ I know that she wouldn't make these things up. ❞"And why did I had to go?" I ask, hopping of the sleigh. "You haven't been to uncle Charles for a very long time. And he needs to pay us for some flowers." Adam hands me a bouquet of flowers and a card. "Now go, or I'll leave you here." He jokes. I stick my tongue out and walk to the store.
"That's understandable. If these are ordinary items. But they're not." "I heard that before." The bell of the store rings when I come in and I see my uncle doing business with a costumer. "Hey Grace, can you wait a minute? I'm doing-" "of course, I have apparently all the time." I cut him off.
"Nope. Dime a dozen." He says to the customer. "I doubt it. My parents were given that as a gift when in service of the Queen." I narrow my eyebrows and turn around to look at the girl that is talking. "It was made by the royal potter. Don't you recognize the stamp? The queen was indebted to them for the intelligence they brought during the Boer War."
"Anne?" I ask. The girl turns around and I see the freckled face of Anne Shirley. "Anne, what are you doing here?" I walk to her and stand next to her. "We have to sell all of our stuff."
"Sorry I'm holding up your business. Go on!" I say, taking a few steps back."Meaning what?" "Spying. For the crown. I'm sorry, that all I can reveal." Charles chuckles and shakes his head. "What a crock!" "I don't think she is lying." I say, taking some steps foreword. "I beg your pardon?" "I mean that, I know Anne, and I know that she wouldn't make these things up." I tell him with my serious face. "Let me see that again." He says, picking up the bird.

"Thank you so much! Without you I probably wouldn't sold anything." Anne says, when we walk out of the store. "That's what friends are for." I stop my passes and freeze. "I think I forgot something." I try to think about what I forgot but I just can't remember. "Maybe it's not important." I look at Anne confusing.
"Gilbert." Anne says, and I look where she is looking. "Anne." Gilbert gives me a look, but doesn't say anything. "Hello." "Gilbert." Anne stammers. "I think I need to sit down." Then I see that Anne is breathing very heavy. "Sure." Gilbert says, taking Anne by the arm. I just walk after them.
Why did he didn't say anything to me? Is this because of our fight? Why is Anne so nervous around him? Why didn't say anything to me!? Why doesn't he say anything to me now? I was just frozen thinking these thoughts about Gilbert, while they have a conversation.
"You like working on the docks?" Anne asks Gilbert. "It's a means to an end. I hope to get hired on a steamer soon." He didn't look at me once, since we are in this cafe. "May I ask, what about your farm?" "I don't have to decide right now. I want to see some of the world first. If I come back to Avonlea, I want it to be my choice, not an obligation. It's what my dad would have wanted. Sorry to hear about Mr. Cuthbert taking sick and all those problems."
"Still seems unreal. Even though I just sold all our... everything. With the help of Grace. But thank you." I look to Anne and then look back at the table. "He's a good man. He offered to help me with my land come spring." "I love him with all my heart. I don't know what I'd do if..."
"I owe you an apology." "No, you don't." Gilbert shakes his head. "Yes, I do." "I should apologize to you." Then they began to argue. "Can you guys please not argue for once?" I say tiredly. "Gilbert... I am very sorry that I wasn't more sensitive about your father, and what losing him really meant for you." "It's water under the bridge."
"I know so much more than I did then." She sighs and says, "anyway..." "anyway." That's the moment that it hit me. I look at Gilbert and Anne and see how they look at each other. It's the same way my mom and my dad looked at each other. Gilbert probably doesn't want to see me anymore. "I should... I should go to work." He stares into my eyes and stands up.
Then I realize what is happening. Do I have feelings for Gilbert? Am I jealous of Anne? I stand up and walk out of the door. I walk passed Anne and Gilbert into an alley. Why does this overcomes me? And why is it with Gilbert? Why could it not be with an other guy, like Billy- no, wait. Not Billy. Like Kyle?
"Grace?" I look up and see Adam with an injured Jerry. "Oh my goddess, what happened?" I ask, looking at the face of Jerry. "Can you bring him to Anne? I have to find some guys." I nod shocked, and bring Jerry to Anne.
"Get away from her!" Jerry says, pushing Gilbert. "Stop. Jerry! Stop! Stop! I-I know him." Anne stands in front of Gilbert. "Jerry, what happened to you? Are you all right? Grace, what happened to him." "I'm fine." Anne sighs. "Come here, come here. Sit down." She pulls him to a bench and they sit down. "Okay, what happened?"
I look at Gilbert, who is looking concerned at Jerry. He is never going to look at me that way. The way he looks at Anne. The way he looks when he is concerned, interested, or amazed. I don't even know if he wants to look at me. "I remember you now from the big fire. I-I'm Jerry." Gil and Jerry shake hands and Gilbert says. "Need my help with anything? Anything I can do?" Anne looks at me for a few second and then she says, "just take care of yourself. Cole home someday."
"Hope everything works out." For you two." They stare into each other's eyes, for a long time. It became awkward for me, so I sighed. Jerry look at me and then says to Gilbert, "au revroir." "Uh, yes, bye." Anne and Jerry walk away from me and Gilbert. I bite my lip and turn around. When I wanted to walk away a hand stops me.
