Chapter Four

Hospital Bed

Jacob could hear a loud beep.

Then another one.

Then another.

The beeps came about each five seconds. They were always high-pitched and lasted for a second.

Jacob could also felt a cold warm hand holding his as well as his wrist be wrapped in something comfortable, but tight. There was also a thin wire under his nose as well as a bandage wrapped around his head. Speaking of his head, it throbbed and he felt it pump as if it had a pulse of its own. He also felt a pain in his torso and his leg.

The light burned his eyes as he opened it, but when he could fully open his eyes without feeling pain, he saw his father smiling weakly down at him. Jacob went from his father's face to look around the room. He was in a hospital room. The walls were white, the floor was large white tile style, there was a medium sized window beside his stretcher that only showed a black sky, and there was a light brown door. There was a stack of chairs in one corner of the room and two of them were out of the stack and also positioned beside him, but they weren't holding anybody. On the other side of the room, there was a counter with a sink and a couple of doctor instruments.

"Hey son," Billy told his son.

"Dad?" Jacob's voice cracked as he spoke his first word.

"Carlisle said that you would probably be thirsty. Do you want some water to drink?" Billy asked his son.

Jacob nodded his head and he then saw his father lean down to pick up something from the floor. Jacob guessed that there was a small cooler there because Billy brought his hand back up, and it was holding a cold water bottle. Billy let go of Jacob's hand to open it. When he did, Jacob took it and carefully brought it to his lips. He took a large drink before giving it back to his father.

As Billy was putting the cap back on the water and putting it back in the cooler, Jacob thought back. What happened to him? Why was he here?

And then the image came to him. Renesmee, bound and gagged, being dragged out of his house with a couple of other half-vampires. Then, everything went black. Where was she now though? Was his wife okay?

"Where's Renesmee?!" I asked worriedly.

Billy frowned and gave a deep sigh.

"She's still missing." Billy told him sadly.

"What?" Jacob took a deep breath, "how long has she been missing?"

"You've been here for eight-," Billy checked his watch, "Nine days. Every day the Cullen family, besides Carlisle, and the two packs have been looking for her. They all came in to see you a couple of times. Rachel and Rebecca come every day like me. When it is ten, I tell them to go home to get some rest. Carlisle lets me stay overnight though. I insisted that I should be here when you woke up."

"Eight days?" I asked.

"Yes. It took a little for you to heal since you had many injures." Billy told him, "both wrists and legs were broken. You had all of your ribs broken, a dislocated shoulder, and even your spine was broken. Lucky that you are a werewolf though. All of them were able to heal, but as you can see by your bandages, some more than others." Billy told him.

"When they were taking Renesmee out of the house, I couldn't get up. I tried, but I couldn't." I said and I felt tears come to my eyes.

Billy gently wiped his son's tears away from his cheeks.
