Chapter Sixteen
It was the Monday after the Autumn Exams. Normalcy had soon settled into Cross. No more were the last-minute studies on every corner or the frequent incident of slamming against a post because everyone had their faces buried in front of a book the whole time.
Everyone is back to their daily routines.
No longer can you find a student with their face buried in a book. Everyone were busy talking, gossiping-the usual occurrence in the Academy whenever it isn't the Exam Week.
The stress and frustration of the previous week was replaced with anticipation and excitement for the result that would be posted on the afternoon of the first Monday after the exam.
The first day of classes after the Autumn Exams, the school was a buzz. Squeals of delight and boast of delusional no-brainers filled the air. A lot were assured that they could be placed into The List.
The List contains the top 200 smartest students in the entire year school. The list is divided to four; for each of the year level in the academy: freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior. Everyone wanted to be a part of that prestigious list, considering that the people on that list are given a high pedestal in the social hierarchy of the school.
Number one of the contenders of that list is Alexa Park.
Elizabeth rolled her eyes as she walked passed Alexa and her groupies of bleach blondes on her way to Study Hall.
Alexa was once again telling her friends of her amazing spot in The List, considering that she held the top spot since she transferred to Cross Academy.
"When the list is put up I'm going to be written as the smartest girl in school," Alexa gloated to her friends. "Number one, remember?"
"Is there going to be a party again?"Samantha Karsouli, one of Alexa best friends asked her.
Samantha Karsouli is the daughter of a Greek Tycoon. Despite her Greek lineage is a complete Californian girl, blonde hair and blue eyes.
She can be smart when she wants to be but she is slow on understanding what's going around her.
"Of course Samantha," Alexa said irritated. "And everyone is invited." She added the last part loudly.
Elizabeth snorted before continuing on walking down the hall way. She arrived at the Study Hall and quickly spotted Hayley and Adam occupying one of the tables in the huge Study Hall.
"Please," Elizabeth said as she approached them. "Kill me now..."
"What got you so irritated today, Liz?" Adam looked up from the paper he was writing.
"If I hear another one of Alexa's claims of being the smartest one in school, I probably go nuts," she groaned as she flopped down the chair in front of them with her bag on the table and her Geometry book, as well.
"You only hear her on the hallways and if you thing that it's that bad I'm pretty sure you wouldn't survive having the same floor as her in the dorms." Hayley said.
"Yeah!" Elizabeth said smiling cheekily. "I wouldn't want to hear her yapping about her hair 24 hours a day."
It was now Hayley who groaned. "Don't remind me."
Adam laughed at his girlfriend's reaction.
"Laugh all you want considering you wouldn't have to deal with her with you being a boy and all that."
Adam's laughter faltered and his face fell.
"I always have the last laugh, babe," Hayley said.
Elizabeth cleared her throat when she noticed that the two were getting a little bit intimate with one another and she doesn't want her innocent eyes scared as well her mind.
