After hearing my friends complaining I went to my afternoon classes. I just couldn't get Andy out if my head. She was so... mysterious and electrifying that I could help but wonder what she was like when you got to know and understand her.
My classes went by in a blur. All I could think about was Andy and our walk. I didn't know what it was about her, but there was something.
I made my way to my locker when Tristan met me there, obviously dissapointed.
"Where are you going?" He asked, his arms crossed and his expression cold.
"Umm, home? Where are you going?" I played dumb, again.
"Well the guys and I are going to bowling if you want to come."
"Bowling? Now? Sorry I can't."
"Are you sure? You never have anything to do on Monday nights. C'mon, it'll be fun." His brown eyes felt like daggers.
"Okay. You go get the guys and I'll meet you outside." I gave a half smile, not wanting to give away the fact that I was bluffing.
"Okay. Don't forget." He turned and walked through the crowded hallway. I watched until he went out the non main door and bolted the other way. He couldn't see me with Andy.
I ran to the main entrance where I saw Andy sitting on the bench, cross legged as if she were a kindergartener sitting in the carpet, except she was on a bench. Her book bag was slung across her shoulder like before, and she was looking at the sky. I opened the door and went outside, being careful not to be caught by the guys.
"Hey." I whispered. There were a lot of people by the door, so I whispered so that only she could hear me.
"Hello Cole the not stereotypical jock." She didn't look at me, just the sky.
"Do you want to start walking?" It showed that I wanted to leave quickly, but she didn't show any signs of seeing it.
"Just sit beside me for a minute." Andy still didn't look at me, she just kept staring at the sky.
I obeyed and sat beside her. Only then did she look at me. She examined me from head to toe, then she got up and stood there.
"What?" I asked, confused.
"Oh nothing. I just wanted to see how tall you were compared to me when we were sitting. That's all." She gave a crooked smile, and then she crossed her arms, "Are you going to get up so that we can leave or what?"
"Oh, yeah." I shook my head and silently laughed at her... joke? Words? Logic? I don't know what it was, but it was sorta funny.
"Okay," she started once we were away from the crowd, "you know when you called me beautiful?"
"Yeah... what about it?" I questioned it since it really wasn't a big deal.
"Don't. I don't eat that shit up." Now she was looking at me. She almost seemed mad, but she wasn't. She seemed like she was warning me.
"I don't see the problem. I just told you the truth. That's it. What's so bad about that? I thought girls liked that shit anyway." Now I probably seemed mad, but Andy's demeanour didn't change whatsoever.
"Okay, so let's get this straight. You think you're so charming and cute. You think that you can get any girl in the world if you want her by lying and telling them things like 'you're beautiful'. Well, let me tell you something, Cole, I'm not a girl. I am a storm with skin. I can't be won over with charm. I probably can't even be won over, so you can keep trying if you want. Trust me, you don't want to get caught up in my life. Just go chase a cheerleader or something, because you shouldn't be interested in someone like me." Andy looked into my eyes the whole time. I didn't know what to say, because it was all true. All of it was the truth except for one part.
"The thing is, I am interested in you. I don't know why or how, but I am. Please just give me a chance. I want to get to know you, Andy. You seem like such an interesting person and you're so mysterious that it makes me want to know you."
"It just won't work. Sorry." She put her head down.
"Let's be friends then. That way I can get to know you without you being worried about whatever you're worried about." I didn't want to say it, but that was my last resort.
"I've never been good at friends." She muttered quietly.
"See, We can help each other out. I'll teach you about friendship and you teach me what you know about you. Deal?" I extended my hand out.
"Deal." Andy grabbed my hand and gave it a firm handshake. My fingers tingled, but I kept a straight face. I tried not to blush, but who knows if I did or not. I was just happy as this was the first step to many.
"So what do you like to do besides dancing?" I asked awkwardly.
"I like to find quotes and write them down. I like the ones that have so much depth that you don't understand them so much that you do. It probably seems weird, but that's what I do." Her eyes were filled with something that I couldn't name. It was like pure... peace almost, but not really.
"What's your favourite?"
"A heart can be put back together with what broke it; love." Her smile spread across her face slowly as she said it.
"I like that one. It's just so... true. Who said it?" I wasn't lying.
"Anonymous. Some people don't want others to know what's really going on inside, so they just keep their words nameless." Her words definitely came from somewhere deep down.
"Cool. I wouldn't have guessed that about you."
"Well I'm pretty mysterious as you'd call it." She gave a little laugh, "What about you? What do you like to do besides sports and hanging out with your friends?"
"Nothing really. I'm a pretty boring person." I wasn't about to tell her the truth.
"So you are a stereotypical jock." Andy's eyebrows raised as if she knew that I was not telling her something.
"I am not! I just don't like doing much, that's all." I shrugged my shoulders and looked straight ahead.
"You don't even play video games or anything?"
"Nah. Too boring. I prefer real life excitement." I didn't want to let her know anything about my home life.
"Well, you are pretty boring, but so am I. Do you have any siblings?" She questioned, her face unreadable.
"Um yeah. I have a sister but that's all. She's pretty cool." I pictured Gracie, her messy brown hair whipping around in the wind.
"Really? What's her name?" Andy was wanting to know more and more about me, although I asked to know more about her.
"Gracie. Do you have any siblings?"
"Um... nope. I'm an only child." She hesitated before she said nope. I decided not to press any further.
"Nice. Well, I've got to turn here so I'll see you tomorrow, right?" I silently pleaded with her to let me see her tomorrow.
"Maybe. See ya." She smiled a beautiful smile and walked on, not even looking back. I just shook my head and turned. I was going home.
