I was just sitting in my room, listening to Uprising and then to Madness. Muse is one of my favorite bands ever!

"Clara!" Mom yelled at my music. "Turn that down so I can speak," I obeyed.

"Yes, mom?"

I could still hear the lyrics in the background.

And I have finally seen the light,

And I have finally realized

What you mean.

"Have you finished packing yet? We need to get a move on it, or we'll really be late!"

"I know mom, I am. Just a few more minutes ok? Then I'll be out, promise." I gave my mom a small kiss on her cheek, then she left my room.

My suitcase was opened on my bed, showing all the clothes I would need for this week-long trip.

Do I have everything? I was thinking to myself. Then it hit me: underwear! Wouldn't want to forget that now, would I?

I hurriedly zipped up my suitcase and unplugged my charger from my computer. I stuffed the charger and wall charger plugin into a side pocket of my suitcase. Then I stuffed my iPod into my pocket.

I drug my suitcase to the door, before shutting the lights off. Then I shut my door behind me, walking over to my mom.

"Ready?" She asked.

"Let's go," I smiled at her. It was still raining when we carried our bags to the car. It was always raining. I am a senior this year, so primary motivation for this trip was to celebrate my last summer as a high school student.

The other motivation was to get away from the rain. That's why we were traveling to San Francisco, California.

We left our home around 1 P.M., so we should make it there after 10:30 tonight.

Mom had me drive for now, and then she was going to take over in a few hours. "Here, plug in your iPod for music."

We had a radio in our car but didn't really like to listen to it. Mostly because of the commercials. My mom liked Muse, too. So I was easily able to play their albums. I had all of them.

Mom grabbed the car adapter from the glove box and connected it to the little plugin. Then I looked over and quickly plugged it into my iPod.

I looked back just in time to narrowly miss going over the center lane. "Sorry mom," I smiled sheepishly.

"Do you want me to drive?" She asked. Worry was evident in her voice.

"No, I'm fine. You need to rest so you can drive later." Mom agreed and then slumped back into her seat.

I looked at my iPod, selecting a song to listen to. I decided on Madness again. What? It's my favorite song!

I clicked the lock button, hearing it click as the screen went black. I set it in my lap as I drove.

"So, Clara?"

"Yes, mom?"

"What do you think of Allan?" Here we go again...

"He's ok, why do you ask?"

"Well, he's asked me to marry him," she replied.

"What?"

"And I've said yes."

"But Mom! You've only known him for barely a month! He could be a serial killer or something!" I yelled back.

"He is NOT a serial killer, Clara! He is a nice man!"

"How do you know! What if he's like all the other men you've married? No matter what, you'll never find dad again. No one can replace him!" I yelled.

I made the mistake of looking at her with tears in my eyes. She looked so sad, but what could I do? It was the truth.

I looked back to the road. "I'm sorry mom, but I don't think he's good enough for you," I said, calmer this time.

"I know, but I'm not changing my mind. I've agreed already. He is completely different from the other guys. I promise you that. Ok?"

I reluctantly agreed with her. What could I do? I was between a rock and a hard place here. She was my mom and I loved her to death. I just hated some of her choices.

We ride in silence for a bit, when Time Is Running Out started playing.

I think I'm drowning

Asphyxiated

I wanna break this spell

That you've created

"Clara?"

You're something beautiful

A contradiction

I wanna play the game

I want the friction

"We're moving after we get married, ok?"

You will be the death of me

You will be the death of me

"What?" I asked. Tears brimming over.

Bury it

I won't let you bury it

I won't let you smother it

I won't let you smother it

"Clara?!"

Our time is running out

"Clara?! There's a car! Clara!"

Our time is running out

I heard a screeching of tires, and the crunching of glass. The impact caused my head to go forward and hit the windshield. A blinding bright light formed over my eyes, I couldn't see anything. Then everything went dark.
