"Vegas?" I screamed out.
"Yes... Something wrong?"
"No... No. When are we leaving?"
"Right now!"
I noticed as he did a U-ey on the main road. We were no longer going towards home.
"We should make it by noon tomorrow," he mentioned.
"Wait! But we don't have any clothes to change into! I'm not wearing the same clothes each day!"
"That's ok, I'll call Alice. She'll know where to send them." After he said that, his phone rang.
He fished it out if his pocket and slid the unlock button to answer.
"Hi, Alice... Yeah, we're going to Vegas... No, it's not like that... It's her summer vacation!... I need to do this, for her... Yes, Alice, I'll keep in touch... HA, I'll make sure to have her call when we get there... Love you, goodbye!" And then he hung up.
It's weird only being able to hear one side of the conversation. It almost seemed that Alice was upset we were going.
We stopped at a McDonalds to get a quick meal. Emmett ordered himself a Happy Meal. I ordered a quarter pounder with fries and a Dr. Pepper.
"You eat a lot for a small person," he commented.
"And you don't eat very much for a huge person," I joked while sticking out my tongue.
"You're so mean," he laughed. I laughed too because we both knew he was joking.
Once finished we continued on our drive. Finally, Emmett spoke. "Go to sleep Clara. Everything will be ok."
I agreed and rested my head against the window. Soon, I was out. When I woke up, we were at a small little restaurant.
"Come on, let's go eat," Emmett said. It was a little after nine.
Walking inside, we sat near the front. I ordered biscuits with gravy. Emmett didn't order anything because he claimed to have gotten food at a gas station while I was sleeping. Then he ordered two glasses of chocolate milk.
He sipped slowly on his milk, while I dug into my food.
"This is really good!" I told him.
"I bet it is," he commented.
Once finished, we got back into his jeep. At about 11:17 we made it to our hotel. Emmett had already called ahead for our room.
We went to our room on the seventh floor and found our bags already in there.
"I'm going to take a shower!" I announced.
"Alright," he smiled. "I'll be in as soon as your finished!"
Emmett then left the room to check out the rest of the hotel.
I cleaned up, putting on one of the outfits Alice stuffed in the bag for me. She put a lot of lingerie in there. Like I was ever going to wear that!
I called Alice next. "Jeez Clara! Took you long enough!"
"Love you too, Alice. So what's with all the lingerie?" I really was curious.
"What? Anything can happen!"
"Alice! It's not like that!"
"Okay!" She sang out. She acted as if she knew otherwise. "I'm going to let you go! Have fun!" Then she hung up.
I went over to the bed and laid down, letting my cramping muscles relax after the long drive. I dozed off for a while until Emmett woke me up.
"Come on, Clara! Let's go grab some drinks."
"I don't drink!"
"Ok, well let's look at the casino then."
"Alright."
I brushed out my hair and grabbed a sweatshirt just in case. We went downstairs, deciding that we should eat.
Sadly, the only thing they really served beside the food, was alcoholic beverages. Unless I wanted water! But I decided to go ahead and get a cherry daiquiri.
It tasted delicious! I ordered another one and realized too late that I was getting drunk. I would really feel bad tomorrow. But for now, I didn't care.
Emmett was helping me walk to the elevators when I suddenly had an idea.
"Hey, Emmett?"
"Yeah?"
"Will you marry me?"
"Of course Clara! When?"
"Right now."
"Really? Right now you want to get married? Are you absolutely sure?"
"Yes. We can always have a second marriage later to invite everyone to."
"Alright, then we should get a taxi. Pick out our rings."
"Yes!"
Once we were inside the taxi, Emmett asked where the nearest ring shop was. The man graciously drove us there.
Walking inside was strange. No one was here, but it was open 24/7. Probably for the other shotgun weddings.
The front counter had a note that said to ring the bell for assistance. Emmett touched the button and we listened to its tiny ding.
A man walked in from the back. He was in a white shirt with black pants. A tan apron was tied around his waist.
"Yes, what can I do for you two."
"We need rings," Emmett spoke.
"Well, you've come to the right place! What do you need? Promise? Engagement? Wedding?"
"We're looking for wedding rings."
"Ah, I have the perfect ones. This way, please!"
He led us to a back room with lots of beautiful but expensive rings. Emmett didn't seem to care though.
I went and looked at the men's rings, while Emmett looked at the woman's. We wanted to find the perfect ones for each other. It didn't take long though. The man was right, he did have the perfect ones.
The total was close to $3,000, but Emmett honestly didn't seem to care.
The chapel ended up being located half a block away from the store. We walked right on over and were allowed right in.
The ceremony was quick, but we didn't mind. We were just happy to be with each other, putting the rings we'd picked out onto the other one's fingers. Kissing each other made it even better.
We would be together forever, I thought. Although I knew that it would be probably only close to 75 years. If only we could be together forever I thought sadly. But this would do.
My favorite moment of the night was when Emmett told me he really truly loved me. Back at our hotel, we laid in bed together. Side by side. Not talking. Just enjoying the others company.
I fell asleep sooner than I'd wanted. But it was ok because Emmett was there with me.
