Everything was quiet. I could still remember bits and pieces from the accident. My body hurt all over- like one big bruise.
Maybe I was dead? I definitely felt like I was floating on a cloud. Almost detached from my body somehow.
There was no way I could have survived that accident. What about mom? I felt a stab of fear at what I may have caused her. Was she alright? If I really am dead, how is she taking it?
So many questions were running through my head. Then I heard a door open nearby.
I guess that solves two questions... somewhat. I was for sure alive. So mom wouldn't need to freak out over my death.
There was a shock of cold on my wrist, and my eyes popped open.
"Sorry," the man before me spoke. He was the most beautiful man I had ever seen. He wore a light blue shirt with grey slacks. Over his shirt, he wore a white doctors jacket. He had blonde hair, pale white skin that was extremely cold, and he had honey colored eyes. He also had a sad smile on his face.
"Th-that's ok," I struggled to speak. My throat was so sore.
"Here, let me get you some water," then he left the room. He returned a few minutes later, glass in hand. There was a straw poking out so that I could drink from it easier.
I didn't realize how thirsty I was until I had drunk the whole glass. Then I started with my questions.
"Can I ask you a few things?"
"Of course!" He replied.
"Who are you?"
"I'm Dr. Carlisle Cullen. I work at the hospital here in Albany."
"Where am I exactly? I mean this definitely isn't a hospital..." I trailed off.
"This is my home. When they found you, you were brought directly here." For some reason, this answer scared me. Only because I was in this man's home. You never know, some people can be creeps.
"Ok, and last question." He looked like he knew what I was going to ask, but he said nothing. Waiting for me to ask it myself. "Where is my mom?"
"I'm sorry, but she didn't make it. The... impact of the two vehicles killed her instantly. There was nothing I could do. I'm so sorry."
He knew I wanted to be left alone, so he left. I fell in and out of sleep. He checked on me constantly but tried his best not to bother me.
Then one day, a young woman with long brown hair walked in. She was just as pale as Dr. Cullen, and she had the same colored eyes. She was carrying a plate with some toast.
"Hi, I'm Esme Cullen," she introduced herself. "And you are..?"
"I'm Clara... Clara Schneider." I decided to be polite. She had been kind enough to introduce herself.
"Hi, Clara. I brought you some food. I hope you will at least eat a bit of it. You can't just starve yourself," she commented.
She already seemed like the motherly type. There was a pang in my gut as I remembered my own mom. Tears started to form in my eyes as I reached over for the plate.
"Th-thanks," I spoke. She looked sad but didn't say anything. She just sat at the end of my bed and looked out the window as I ate.
When I had finished, she stood up and took my plate. "If you want anything else, just ring the bell next to you." And she walked towards the door. Before she shut it, she spoke once more. "I truly am sorry," and then she was gone.
I couldn't control my tears then. I missed my mom so much. I couldn't believe she was already gone! The only thing I was glad about, is I wouldn't have to see Allan anymore. Just thinking his name made me shiver. He was so sleazy!
After a while, I decided to get up. It looked really dark out, but I was hungry. I decided against ringing the bell, invade they were asleep.
I noticed a pair of shoes by my bed and decided to put them in. Then I walked over to the door, opening it quietly.
I peeked into the hall but didn't see anyone. They left a hall light on, so I walked out of my room.
The hall wound around and had a banister showing the living room below. There wasn't anyone there, so I kept walking.
All the doors I passed were closed, but a set of stairs were ahead. Giant windows showed the small driveway outside. There was a large garage just passed that, probably able to hold ten cars at least. How rich were these people?
I could tell I was on a farm. But I couldn't see any animals. I decided to continue my quest for a kitchen so I continued towards the stairs.
I was afraid them squeaking, so I decided to jump down the first set. Then I would jump down the second set in hopes that it would be less loud.
As soon as I jumped, I knew I had miscalculated. I was going to stumble and hit the window, or better yet go right through it! But someone cold caught me.
It was a girl about my age with a short pixie style cut. Her hair was black, but she had the same eyes and skin as Carlisle and Esme. These were some strange looking people too? How many of them were here?
"Hi, I'm Alice Cullen!"
"Uh, hi. I'm Clara. I didn't see you there," I replied.
"Oh! I'm sorry. I was just standing in the corner. I figured you hadn't noticed me. Now, why did you try to jump?"
"I was hoping I wouldn't wake anyone," I replied.
She laughed like this was the funniest thing ever. "What's so funny?" I asked her.
"Oh, nothing!" She replied while smiling. "Are you hungry?"
"Uh, yeah," I replied. We walked down the stairs and into the kitchen. I could see the living room from the little doorway.
She motioned for me to sit at the island in the middle of the kitchen. Then she went and brought out ingredients. "Pancakes?" She asked.
I nodded yes. She made a large stack, putting half on my plate and half on her own.
"Peanut butter ok?" She asked. I loved peanut butter with my pancakes! She grabbed it out of the cabinet, and set it down in front of me.
I watched as she pulled out two knives and forks and handed one to me. Then she went to the fridge and poured two glasses of chocolate milk.
She set the glasses down in front of us, and we started buttering our pancakes.
I ate hungrily as she sort of pushed hers around her plate. When I finished, I asked, "Are you going to eat that?"
"No, I'm really full. I don't know why I made so much."
I just shrugged my shoulders and started eating from her plate. Soon, a boy and girl walked into the kitchen from the backyard.
"Hello Alice," the boy spoke quietly to her. He had surprise surprise, the same eyes, and pale skin. He had tousled bronze colored hair. The girl looked more like a supermodel with her long blonde hair.
"Edward, Rosalie, this is Clara," Alice introduced us.
"Hello," I spoke quietly.
Edward spoke up then, "Clara? You have a little something there." He pointed towards the left side of his face.
"Oh!" I was so embarrassed there was peanut butter there. I turned away, as I turned red. But I know he saw it.
"We're going to go find Jasper!" Edward called from the stairs.
"Who's Jasper?" I asked.
"He's Rosalie's twin. They are Hales, but Edward and I are Cullen's. You'll meet him tomorrow," she explained to me.
I decided I should go to bed. I thanked her for cooking for me, and as soon as my head hit the pillow, I was out.
