Freedom’s War
Based upon 21 Guns by Green Day
What is the cost of freedom’s war,
Is it worth the grief it brings,
You’re trusted with some so raise the bar,
For truth your anthem rings.
One cannot win if one cannot lose,
The aching of both is the same,
For pain is not Why, but often Whose,
Someone must always take blame.
Your past is on fire and read aloud,
Forgiveness is fleeting and cold,
Hold your head high in the growing crowd,
For one day all news becomes old.
Give it up now before you die,
It’s not worth breaking your heart,
You can be saved only if you try,
The pride and hate first must depart.
What is the cost of freedom’s war?
It brings both new life and new hope,
Some run away but never get far,
For truth is the hangman’s rope.
