Jugheads Point Of View-
This is not where I want to be on a Saturday. Sat in the auditorium, going through prom themes, DJ prices, food, drinks, I'd just rather be sat watching paint dry.
"Can't we just leave Cheryl to do it" I said leaning over to Betty who was writing down ideas.
"No we can't" she smiled at me and then looked back down at her notes.
"But Thankyou for being here" she said putting her hand on my knee.
I sighed, how is it that this girl has such an effect on me, this time last year, if a girl done that, I'd probably remove her hand and tell her to go home. But Betty, Betty's different, and I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was.
"Anything for you baby girl" I said leaning in to leave a cute little kiss on her cheek before getting up to go and rinse the small table of cheap cookies and Dixie cups full of Mountain Dew.
For the rest of the hour I lingered by the door, every so often Cheryl would include me and I'd be forced to say things like:
"Absolutely that's a great idea"
"Yeah I think so too"
And then I made the mistake of asking what the theme of the prom is. Big mistake. Huge.
I think Betty could see the regret written all over my face, so fifteen minutes into the debate of the theme Betty stood up in front of every one, next to Cheryl.
"I think the debate can be continued next time" she said and everyone nodded.
"Thankyou" I mouthed at her from the back and she just grinned at me. That beautiful smile.
It wasn't long before she came to hold my hand and dragged me out of the school.
"Where are you e going in a hurry?" I laughed trailing behind her.
"Swimming" she laughed, and I knew exactly where she meant. She drove us home in the truck and put on her bikini with a white summer dress over the top. With white sandals and big circular sunglasses.
I just put on my swimming shorts and t shirt. I made a bag with two big towels and an extra shirt just in case.
On the way to my special place Betty just stared out of the window, it was like the whole world was in her eyes, everything she looked at seemed beautiful just because she looked at it. Like she would go past a house, that's broken and dilapidated, boarded up windows, but if there was a flower on the porch she would find the beauty in amongst the most ugly of places.
"You know, this is our first date in what? 7 and a half months?" I said distracting her and she turned to look at me with a sad smile on her face.
"I suppose it is" She hummed softly fingering the loop of her summer dress and chewing on the end of her sunglasses. Something was bothering her.
"What's wrong?" I said turning into the path that lead to my special place.
"It can wait, right now I want to enjoy our date and forget that I'm me for a few hours" she smiled hopping out the car and widening her eyes at the waterfall. She had already seen it, we've already been here, but I guess you can take it all in when it's light.
The day was like something out of a movie, we laughed until our stomachs hurt and jumped off the waterfall plunging into the water below. We explored the forest, getting lost twice before we found our way back to the car and on our second swim of the day we found that you could get inside the cave behind the waterfall. The place was quiet, and the sun was setting and I decided that this was my favourite place in the whole of the world.
