My Concept of Pain
Imagine that the pain of death is equal to twice the pain of a lifetime. This pain can be calculated two ways: one, each individual pain is added to the rest, so that life is full of an enormous amount of pain. Double that, and you get the pain of death. Or two, each pain prepares us for the next, making it easier to handle as life goes on. Each pain gets easier until the pain of death is only the pain of a simple goodbye. We've all said goodbye before, so death barely hurts. It comes last, so it hurts the least. Death is the easy part. Life, is the challenge.
When you break a bone, they say you get stronger after the recovery. That bone won't break so easily next time. In life, we break many bones, and we get hurt multiple times. Each broken heart gets slightly easier to bear, and each loved one we lose gives us the strength to handle the next. By the time we reach the point of death, dying isn't so hard, as long as we've lived.
Our father gave us a life with one meaning: to live it. Have fun, be careful, and come home safe.
