What if the meaning of life really is 42?

I asked God today about the meaning of life. Why did he put us here? What was his reason for creating this chaos? I think what he was trying to say, is good triumphs over evil. Machiavelli suggested that princes start wars, in order to make themselves look stronger. Maybe that's part of it. He was alone, sitting around with nothing to do, but he had this innate sense of justice, and right and wrong, and he knew he had the ability to create perfection. He had a system for making everything work the right way, and he could do whatever he wanted with that system. God knew that if he created a world, his system would work. He could have a utopia if everyone followed his rules. That's what Heaven is, after all.

Then there's the question of free will. Why did he give it to us? He knew we would abuse it. He knew Adam and Eve would make that mistake, and the world would no longer be perfect. But he went through with it anyway. He has a plan. We're all a part of it somehow, and he's going to make it work. He's not using us as pawns. Maybe that was the purpose of free will: he wants us to choose to be a part of his team. He doesn't want to force us into working for him. He truly does love us, and he wants us to know that. Why? He needed companionship. It was something he knew he could create, so he did. It's what I do when I write. I created friends to help me get through life, and to give me someone to talk to. Yet in my stories, they aren't perfect. No relationship between characters is perfect; they all fight and make mistakes. But the end result? That's what I haven't been able to figure out yet. I think we win. I think good will triumph over evil, and despite the difficulty, everyone will make it through the ordeal to the ultimate victory, which is a feeling of joy and relief that surpasses all the misery that led up to it. That's what God wants to do. He wants to provide a situation for good to triumph over evil: because it never has. Evil rules the world right now. Christians are here, and we're being heard around the world, sure, but are we in control? No. No one is. Which means, anyone is. Anyone who steps up with an idea, is in control of some people. Other people choose to be controlled by different people, and no one really has authority. What does that leave us with? Chaos. Chaos is what we have here. God left us in chaos. Why?

So we can win. It has to get worse before it can get better, right? When all hope is lost, we break through. Good triumphs over evil, and the Devil goes down in a fiery lake. God knows his plan is perfect. He knows the outcome. The Devil might even know it to, but that doesn't stop him from putting up a fight. He's the father of lies. He's lying to himself when he says he can win. God knows he can't. God has always known who the winner would be, and how it would happen.

God needs obedient people for his perfect world. Maybe this is all just a test. Training, to see if we can be obedient. Give us a chance to do his will here, and we'll be leaders in Heaven someday. He doesn't want people to fail. He knows they will, but he doesn't want that. He sets up everyone's life in a way that if they truly wanted to, they could succeed. They could find him, and they could be the kind of influence he needs in the world. People have a problem listening. They like to tune him out and rebel for a bit, before they realize what the truth has been all along. They think they have to get away and make their own decisions for a while, then they'll know that God was right. Then they make the decision themselves to follow God. Is that what he wants? Maybe. It's what he gets more than anything. Some of the best Christians are the ones that have strayed and come back. They truly made the decision to stick to God because it was a decision they were making for the second time, after breaking the promise previously. They feel guilty for messing up, and they want to be stronger and do better this time. They've got that fight in them, that hope, and they know what they have to do to fix their mistakes. They have to be ten times better than before, and they have to ask for God's mercy on them. They could have hurt the plan. More importantly, they hurt themselves. And they ARE the plan.
