Chapter 22

Earlier in the morning, I had walked from Havoc's place to here, taking Dan's shift since he was still left in the same mindset.

I wanted nothing more than to move on but to do that I needed closure, I needed to cut the loose threads off. And I wasn't the only one.

A gun was in the waistband on my jeans that Kieran had supplied me with, covered under my relatively long sweater. That was the main reason I wanted their help. I couldn't risk buying it on the black market when my name circled the area. Also, I wanted support from someone, no matter who it was.

I circled my wrists, the same thing with my neck as I waited for his appearance. My back faced the wall so I had my eyes on both the exit and entrance, not knowing which way he would show up. I looked outside the window to my right and saw the silver car that carried five guys waiting as patiently as myself, ready to step in if I needed help. After a while, I saw a dark outline of a comparably tall man and I knew it was him. He was by himself just as he'd promised and I stepped closer when the door opened.

"You choose the right path, porcelain." With his hands in his pockets, he walked towards me and I realized that I was more than ready to end him.

'Seconds away from being free'.

If I could I would fight him fair and square, not just for my own pleasure but for evidence of the bullet. Even though Kieran bought it anonymously it could easily get traced to the seller that would be able to identify Havoc and that was a risk I wasn't willing to gamble.

"Agreed. Though I think you've forgotten something." He eyed me suspiciously, trying to see through me. "When I bet on something I bet on it to win and you're standing on the finish line." With that I spun around and kicked him.

Without him having time to think I brought my palm to my head while stepping forward once again and my incoming hook struck directly at my opponent's chin. Losing his balance made him take a step back but quickly recovered and prepared a punch in my face. Before it came in contact with my skin I grabbed his wrist and knocked him off balance by dragging him my way.

When Zach was falling toward me I brought my other hand up in a fist and using the momentum to forcefully strike him with a cross punch. His head rolled in circles and he took a deep breath to steady himself. He swiftly shoved a pedestal of the floor to release some anger and involuntarily made a crack in the window.

Outside it was the same silver car with the same people who had promised to not step in if it wasn't for my life or federal interruptions.

Dark eyes searched me and he picked up parts of the pedestal once again and threw it at me. It was way above me and I inadvertently sighed in relief that it didn't hit me.

But I spoke too soon. On the ceiling above me was a huge lamp that now dangled from its loose attachment from the hit Zach had predicted. When I saw it falling down I rolled out of the way but it hit my left calf and pain shoot up through my leg. Quickly I moved the parts that attached me to the floor and stood up. I looked at Zach who at that time seemed furious.

"I'll guess I'll have to make you come by force then."

"Try me." Then we were off again.

He kicked me in the ribs faster than I had time to move and I gripped my waist, exhaling sharply. A flower pot stood in the corner and he grabbed it over his head, throwing it at me but missing and instead of breaking the window behind me.

I was done playing games and I kicked him in the center of his throat hoping to make his pharynx come in and prevent him from breathing. For a moment he had to stabilize himself by resting his arms on his knees while standing crouched and gasping in the air to his lungs. I took advantage of the situation and kneed him so he fell over.

Before I got the chance to attack again he jabbed the side of my face but I still hovered over him, blocking his way to stand up again. As I kicked him in his stomach making him fall from his side on his back I heard sirens.

'A public place probably wasn't the best.'

Laughter echoed in the local and Zach smiled under his bleeding look.

Havoc had fled from their locations with no warning whatsoever, but I wasn't really surprised. Even though we had a common goal we still had mutual dislike feelings towards each other and saving their own skin wasn't what I would call a stab in the back, despite previous promises.

"You won't have time to kill me now before the cops arrive." He coughed up blood and struggled to express his words clear. "If you stop now I'll get you out of this situation as rapid as you can thank me."

"What makes you think I won't tell them everything." The look of uneasiness on his face was priceless, I was taunting him and he knew it.

"They have nothing on me. And I'll just tell them that you're the same rebellious teenager who who threw a tantrum, using me as your canvas." The sirens approached fast and I took out my gun and pointed it's barrel to his head. Seconds of intimidation from his part changed to amusement.

"You won't shoot me. They'll catch you and you'll get a lifetime imprisonment." I tilted my head and smirked while chuckles escaped my mouth.

"Can't you see it? I'm breaking free from my own personal cell right now." When the last words struck him the trigger was pulled and a sickening smile rested on the corners of my lips as I watched the now lying corpse. In the faint distance could I hear a door opening and then my arms went behind my back in a tight hold.

"Miss, you're under arrest. You have the right to remain silent. If you choose to give up that right, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney, and to have an attorney present during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be provided for you at government expense."
