The Meeting

Throughout the rest of the day Wafflehouse thought about the interaction he would have with Denny's. Was he going to hurt him? He hoped not, Wafflehouse wasn't the most physically inclined guy. So, he wouldn't be able to do that much. Would he run away? If that was the case, why would he even go to see him? That sparked another question, why is he even going to see him? He couldn't think of any positives or anything he could gain from him seeing him. So, why was he even going to meet him? He wasn't exactly certain. But, maybe it was the fact that he hoped he could be friends with him. Wafflehouse didn't know much about Denny's. But, he had seen him at other debates he had attended. The debate with Denny's was one of his first big debates he participated in. He had seen Denny's in many debates before Wafflehouse could participate in them. He really admired his charisma and his passion. It was a joy yet a nightmare to Wafflehouse to have gone against someone he looked up to. Plus, Denny's was only two years older than Wafflehouse. Maybe in two years he'd be just as good as Denny's in debate. It kinda hurt Wafflehouse to know that someone he had admired was mad at him. But, he did feel pride that he did beat him. The conflicting thoughts were really confusing.

It was 5:45 p.m. when Wafflehouse had arrived. It said to be there at 6 but he thinks that showing up on time is late. He walked in the dark building, the only light coming in was the natural light beaming through the large windows. He tucked his hands in his pockets as he walked in a fast pace towards the stage. He wasn't really sure he was aloud to even be in the building at this time. The lights were off and no one was there so he could only assume that he wasn't aloud there. So, he tried to make sure no one from outside could see him.

He made his way towards the stage and climbed on. He walked off stage right and made way towards backstage. It was pitch black, he couldn't see a thing. He got out his phone from his back pocket and turned it on. The small light only made him able to see only a small, lit range around him. He didn't go far backstage because he wasn't sure if Denny's would be there to hurt him. He stayed put where he was and looked at the time on his phone, 5:55." He had to wait five more minutes and Denny's would be there. He thought that Denny's would already be there waiting for him but he didn't really care. Wafflehouse was just nervous about what was going to happen.

As he waited he scrolled through apps on his phone. The light it radiated made him feel safe from the ocean of black surrounding him. He couldn't help but to be nervous though. He took a deep breath in to try and calm his nerves, he smelled a familar smell in the air. But, he couldn't pin what it may have been. He thought that maybe he was just imagining it and let it slip his mind.

He checked the time once more, 5:59. Denny's should be there any minute. Wafflehouse wanted to look around to see if he saw him, he wasn't sure where the lightswitch was and his phone's flashlight wouldn't produce enough light to make him comfortable enough with looking around.

For the last time he looked at his phone, it was now 6:00 p.m. . He looked up and the lights instantly turned on. There, sitting in a chair, around 20 feet away from Wafflehouse, there sat Denny's. His legs were crossed and his hand was against his cheek. "Have you been sitting there the entire time?" Wafflehouse furrowed his eyebrows and chuckled at how ridiculous that sounded. He must've slipped behind and around him a minute or so before for dramatic effect.

"Yeah, pretty cool right! It was funny watching you look nervous and repeatedly checking your phone. I knew you'd come early because you came early to the debate." Denny's chuckled and continued " I was starting to get bored sitting here dramatically for an hour. It took me twenty minutes thinking about which pose to do. Then it took me ten more minutes to see where the lightswitch was. Then, I had to see how I could turn on the lights while sitting here. Don't ask but I found a wa-"

"So, you have been waiting here for almost an hour, watching me from across the room, not saying anything till exactly 6? You've could've just done it when I arrived?" Wafflehouse shook his head and blinked in confusion.

"Yes, but that would've made me a loser. I told you 6, if I did that any earlier, that would've made me early and only losers arrive early." Denny's pointed at Wafflehouse and laughed.

"But, you showed up around an hour early. So...you're a...loser." Wafflehouse squinted at Denny's flawed logic.

"I didn't show up an hour early." Denny's gave a smirk.

"But you just sai-" Denny's interupted him.

"No clue what you're talking about. Unless you've seen me here earlier, which you didn't, you have no proof that I showed up early. So, ha! Take that loser."  Wafflehouse rolled his eyes. He seemed to have a more chilled and humorous behavior when he isn't debating. But, he stilled showed some of that previous behavior the way he called him a loser. "Anyways, let's talk about why I even asked you to be here." Denny's kicked over a chair that he was resting his feet on. Wafflehouse straightned the chair up and sat down.

Wafflehouse and Denny's stared at each other for a minute. Wafflehouse looked over to the side, he felt akward, he didn't know why he wasn't talking. "Um, are you going to tell me why?" Wafflehouse spoke slowly. Denny's nodded and spoke.

"Oh yeah, I just thought you were going to say something and you were just thinking of your response. You took a while for your responses on stage. So, I just assumed it was the same for normal conversations with you. " Denny's laughed and laced his fingers together. "Anyways.."
