Chapter eight

I stared at my feet as it moved forward. I kept on thinking about how Danny said that I was famous. I was famous, how come that happened? I remembered Hethra saying that almost everyone in Tailsburg knew my name. I was the girl with the white eyes.

Now shit's getting real.

"Hey, what are you sulking about?" Danny asked as I brought my head up to look at her.

I hesitated a little. "Nothing."

Lie. Lie. Lie.

She rolled her eyes. "As if." I shrugged. It's true anyway, too obvious to deny.

"So, I'm going to ask you again." She exhaled sharply. "What are you thinking about?"

I moved my mouth to one side. "Stuff."

"You know that's not what I'm asking about." I sighed and dropped my head down. I didn't want to talk, or at least for a while.

"Where are we going?" I asked. She smiled at me knowingly and said, "Fine fine. You can keep your secrets." Followed by a chuckle. I chuckled back nervously.

"We are going to the park." Danny announced cheerfully.

"The park? It's getting dark, we should head back to your cabin soon." I suggested. Again, she answered with a toothy grin.

"Are you scared?"

"No."

She rolled her eyes again. "Come on, it's getting late." She got my hand as we took off. "Don't want to waste a single moment in our eternal life, would ya?" She winked.

I screamed and heard the sound past my ears. I wasn't breathing, the air was coming to me. More like the air was forcing itself down my throat. My head was thrown back and I can't open my eyes without closing it again after a second.

Somehow as we ran, I knew, that we weren't running the normal speed.

<(~.~<)(>~.~)>

We stopped abruptly infront of a grassy area. Danny remained standing, and I, a totally different story. I tried to catch my breath desperately. I held my knees for support. I can't concentrate much on the surroundings because I was too focused on sucking the air. When I still can't breathe, even though I was already practically swallowing all the oxygen around me, I kneeled down and collapsed on the ground, still hopelessly trying to get my breath back.

"Anastasia, what the hell?" I heard Danny's voice as she shook me. I pushed myself up into a sitting position and glowered at her. "I am not dead." I stated in a blank tone. "And apparently, I can't die!"

"Oh stand up and stop being such a drama queen." Danny said and helped me up.

I sighed as I fixed my clothes. "I'm sorry."

Danny chuckled lightly. "You were taken by surprise."

I glared at her. "You think." She raised her hands in humor. I smiled. "Sorry, kinda forgot to explain." I shrugged as my reply.

"Vampires can die by suffocating, right?" I asked her. She gave me a funny look and shook her head. I frowned and then said, "Then why did I feel like I was going to die just a few moments ago?"

"Because," She heaved a sigh. "you still think that you need oxygen." When I didn't speak, she continued to talk. "You are a newbie. The brain needs some time to adjust. It thinks that you're still human, so it makes you breathe the air. But in reality, we vampires don't need oxygen at all. We don't breathe."

As always, I stayed mute and stared at Danny's face.

"Take a look around you. Vampires don't breathe." I instantly scanned my surroundings.

A boy walked past wearing a light flannel shirt, his chest wasn't moving. An old man paced slowly in his itchy sweater, he wasn't breathing. A girl dressed in a blue shirt was walking with another person, they weren't breathing either.

"See what I mean?" I turned my head ever-so-slowly and nodded at the same snail like pace.

"But why do I see you sighing? That's a form of breathing right?" She nodded.

"Yes it is." She confirmed. "I said, we don't breathe. But I never said that we can't." She smiled a smirk.

I was stunned. "So does that mean that we can stay underwater for a very very long time?"

She shrugged. "Yeah, of course."

"Awesome." My legs dipped down in excitement.

Danny nodded. "I know."

"Can we-"

Now this part kinda sucked. I mean, almost, sucked. I was there, standing with my back facing the park, which was really dumb and stupid. Therefore, I can only see Danny and the path we've gone through. Then this is what happened.

"Watch out!" I shrieked as a body hit my back, forcefully. If I was still human, my spinal cord would've cracked. As I fell, my eyes ached. Like a hand gripped it from the inside and pulled it out. I blinked, thinking that the pain would go away if I did. And as if my eyes were a camera, they zoomed in. Literally. I saw the tiny hairs of the grass, the dew of water sticking to them and the little bits of soil, but it all only lasted for a second.

The moment before I completely fell, everything stopped. How did I know? My face did not touch the ground. In short, I didn't fall. I was just staring on whatever I was staring at, while I was lying horizontally suspended in the air. I felt paralyzed. In fact, the only thing I could move were my eyes. I tried to look around, but I can't see anything except for the dirt and grass. I can't even see Danny.

But I caught sight of something; shoes, feet. They were ruffling through the grass. As it came nearer, I saw that the shoes were black. I tried to listen to the footsteps. I heard nothing. I tries again. Still nothing. I then realized that the whole area's quiet.

After a while, I felt a hand grip my arm. I was pulled up by this person. The weird thing was, I floated like I was in space. The man helped me up with no hussle. As he did this, the action revealed his face.

His electric blue hair struck me. His hair to his body is like a neon light at night. It caught my attention. And then my eyes moved to his face. He looks young but when I looked again, I noticed the presence of maturity in his face. Eerie thing, I thought. It's as if all vampires are young looking. Well, except for Maushu anyway.

His eyes were white. Completely white. His nose was slim. His lips were thin. He looked like he came out from a badass movie.

He placed me beside Danny and left about 1 feet between me and the ground. His eyes were hard on me. How can he move? I wondered. He sharply diverted his eyes to the park. His mouth moved. He appeared to whispering something to the air. I gazed at his appearance. He wore a black jacket. And then something flickered behind him. A tail. It was a lion's tail. It waved and tagged along with him.

He screeched the last word he said and then everything started to move again.

The boy who pushed me fell straight into the dirt. My feet landed on the ground, almost losing its balance. Danny still has her shocked expression. The birds continued to fly and every single thing was back to normal.

I glanced at my side and found the mysterious man gone.

Who is he?
