"I can't believe you are grounded while I'm in Hawaii drinking fabulous drinks and flirting with the hotel staff."
Cynthia's cousin decided to give the punishment 'checkup' call in the evening, the day after her trip with Daniel. She was happy to hear from someone she actually wanted to talk to, so she muted the television and wrapped herself in her favorite blanket.
"I doubt your parents or mine would allow you to have any drinks, but I totally hear you about the staff. I hate that I'm missing out!" She pouted.
"How are you feeling, Cyn? Your mom says you haven't really been...mourning. I'm so sorry for—"
"It's okay, don't worry about it." Cynthia felt the tears burning and cut the conversation short.
"Cyn—"
"No, I don't want to talk about this right now, especially not if my mother has been gossiping about me to everyone. Tell them I'm fine and that they don't need to worry about me."
Cynthia's cousin, Isabella, sighed and fell silent for a few seconds. Cynthia knew she was being difficult but Isabella knew her well enough to not ask anything further. Isabella was used to Cynthia being much more colorful with her emotions, so her concern made sense but she also knew that Cynthia never responded well to being questioned.
"Let's talk about something else then. Have you managed to sneak out yet?" Isabelle asked.
Cynthia smiled when she thought about Daniel and their car ride yesterday. It hadn't gone as she planned but the thought of him watching her as she unlocked her front door was thrilling. The entire evening she fantasized about him, she even dared to dream about what he would taste like. Had she gone too far with this?
"I have my ways as you know. More interesting is my new neighbor, who is the brother of Pamela our neighbor, his name, is Daniel and he is so hot."
"What's his deal? Does he have a girlfriend?" Isabella asked intriguingly.
"I haven't gotten that far yet but I'm working on it. He took me grocery shopping yesterday and acted super weird after I helped him pay for his stuff; he was just a few dollars short."
"He is a guy, Cyn, they hate not paying for things – they think it makes them look weak. I say keep working on the guy – I haven't heard of one guy who could resist you yet." Isabelle laughed.
Cynthia wished that was true and hoped it would be in this case. She had yet to work on her next plan on how she was going to run in to him next, it wasn't as easy when she was confined to her house. Maybe Isabella would know what to do; after all she had the hotel staff wrapped around her finger by now.
"Do you have any advice for me? This guy is a hard nut to crack." Cynthia asked.
Isabelle hummed for a few seconds and then; "Curiosity is the best thing to get someone to want to get to know you. Try that and let me know how it goes."
This evening Cynthia had decided to give Daniel a rest and cook herself something really nice, put on her favorite movie and cuddle up with popcorn on the couch. Her father, Anthony, was the best cook in the family and everything she knew was because of him. Not that she would ever admit it but times like these she missed her father terribly. Cooking together while talking about their days used to be Cynthia's favorite thing; they would always make sure to impress Tracy at dinner with something new and special. Tonight Cynthia was cooking one of her favorite dishes; honey glazed ham, roasted vegetables and Hassel backs potatoes.
With one of her father's old Cuban records she danced lightly on her feet while preparing dinner. One thing her parents seemed to have forgotten was to remove all the wine bottles in the house, or perhaps they thought she wouldn't be drinking considering her last time, but she opened a brought out a bottle and stared at it. What would her friends think of her if they saw her now? Dancing around in her kitchen, cooking dinner and obsessing about boys – they would hate her, that's what. Everyone seemed to feel she wasn't mourning the way she should and a part of her agreed but she wasn't sure what would happen if she let herself go there.
