That was the second time in 24 hours that Koa had woken up in a cot. But this one had the scent of mint.

"Good morning," said a warm voice.

Koa quickly got up, but quickly regretted it soon after. She slowly went back into a sleeping position.

"Don't worry, you're fine. I had to give you herbal medicine to heal the wound. Your knee should be just about healed as long as you don't stress it," Koa still hadn't identified the source of the voice.

"No matter what you say she won't trust you June," Mali's voice came in from a distance. Koa felt a hand on her head. It was hot, but not painful either. She tried to distinguish the face, but couldn't because everything was blurry.

"She's not burning up, but she should rest," came the voice again.

"She won't. Not a chance," Mali denied everything the third party suggested. Koa felt Mali's hand on her arm.

"Get up," she said pushing Koa into a sitting position.

Koa's head spun, but she could see a bit better. She noticed a kid sitting on a stool at the end of her bed. He was looking right at her, and slowly as his face came into focus, she noticed his freckled face surrounded by his flowy blond hair.

"Well this is my one and only favorite boy in the world! His name is June, short for Juniper. June meet Koa. Koa meet June!" Mali introduced the two quickly. Mali threw her hands around June and squeezed him.

"You're gonna kill me! Let go!" June protested.

Koa analyzed June from head to toe. He wore normal everyday clothes, but was in fact beautiful.

"So I'm not even gonna ask why you got shot," he said wisely.

Mali smirked and playfully punched him. Koa watched the two and asked what was on her mind, "Are you guys a thing?"

Mali and June stopped and burst out laughing, "Me? With this guy? In your dreams! We know each other for survival," Mali said wiping away tears.

"And there's no way I'd feel anything for a psycho like her," said June laughing.

Koa turned red. June walked over to her and handed her a flask.

"Drink this. It'll get rid of the grogginess," He said cheerfully.

Koa drank it and right away felt changes in vision and control of her body. She got up right away and hobbled towards Mali who stood on the opposite side.

She looked around and was surprised to see a pretty small room. There was a tiny entrance to her right. The bed was in front of her with a desk filled with herbs and medicines next to it. The rest of the room was covered with bookshelves filled with books except for a small corner of shelves, where there were clothes folded neatly. She looked back towards the guy.

"So what does this guy do exactly?"

"Interested I see," she said coyly. She gestured for June to explain.

"I simply am an underground doctor for Mali and anybody she brings through here. This is my hideout right under a busy town. One of the most famous ones actually. It's a big tourist attraction! Oh, but my hideout is off from the sewers. You can't find it unless you know what you're looking for," he said proudly.

Koa looked at him in awe. He was one person she couldn't mess with.

"Well I think we'll be on our way Juniper," Mali said.

"Where to?" June and Koa said in unison.

"I think there's someone Koa needs to meet. Kind of necessary after seeing how she's been living her life in the sewers. I just thought I'd be there so nobody loses their life." Mali shrugged and led Koa out of the hideout and into the sewers once again.
