I don't know what happened or even why. All I know is that my mom had lashed out. But for what? It wasn't like I wanted that man to follow me. He just did. And now my mom thinks I 'invited him over.' Speaking of that man, where was he now?

Koa thought about things like this on a daily basis. It was what happened when your mom was the head of multiple gangs in the city. The accident happened a year after Koa ran away, but Koa wasn't upset at all. Not after living under the same roof as her mother. Her mother would suddenly show up drunk or have moments of pure rage. Not able to show it on her husband, she'd yell at Koa or make her do extra work. She'd never physically hurt her though because of her policy of Girls are Flawless. At least Koa was safe in that aspect.

The day Koa ran away, she saw another side of her mother. She could've regretted leaving, but after what her mom said, there was no way.

It was early that morning. Koa was cleaning up the house that was bought using fraud money. She cleaned the living room, washed the dishes, even took out the trash. Her mom, Annabelle, suddenly walked in as Koa flopped onto the sofa. She smelled alcohol coming from the lady and backed away, giving the tv to her mother.

"Hi mother," Koa said weakly.

Her mom glared at her, "What're you doing here. You're just like your father. Useless. I don't know how I fell in love with that man."

Koa trudged away, head hanging, as she walked outside. She saw her dad reclining on a chair. That infuriated her. She walked over and tipped the chair over using her 11 year old hands. Upon hitting the ground, her father got up and screamed, "What the hell do you think you're doing?! Annabelle! Educate your child!"

No response. Then suddenly, an answer, "Educate her yourself. She's as useless as you. No matter how much I look for potential, she's weak. Physically and Emotionally. I don't care about her mental status."

That was the first time in 11 years that Koa's mother had said that she was a lost cause. She had always been harsh, but Koa never gave up or gave in. She was done pretending. A tear trickled down her cheek as her ears turned red with hatred and anger. Koa stomped up to her room and slammed the door. She then packed a small bag with minimal clothing and some snacks before leaving. Little did she know that what she had would never be enough.

That night, Koa tiptoed downstairs and went over to the gate. She heard a sound behind her and whirled around. To her shock, she saw her mother smiling at her.

"Leaving so soon? And I thought you'd stay a bit longer. Oh well, if I see you again, I'll personally make sure you can never leave for the rest of your life!" Annabelle cackled.

Koa shuddered and ran out of the gate. There was no way she'd see her mother again. To her surprise she never did.
