JUNE 2018
MY TWIN brother is breaking up with me!
Oh, wait. That sounded wrong on so many levels. And gross, too.
"What do you mean by you are quitting as my artist?" sita ni Ruma sa kakambal niyang si Rabi habang nakaupo siya sa kama nito at kumakain ng tuna sandwich. We're partners, you know."
"Weren't you listening to me?
"Let's start a new arc, baby brother."
"That won't save the story," masungit na sabi ni Rabi, saka siya nilingon. As usual, his face was as indifferent as his voice. Apparently, the term "resting bitch face" applied to men as well. "And don't call me 'baby brother.' That's gross. Plus, you're just a few seconds older."
"Don't change the topic," reklamo ni Ruma. "I'm paying you to draw my story, am I not?"
To be honest, Rabi's art style didn't suit her story because the way he drew the characters was "rough," "sharp," and a little dark as if they were about to start a brawl or go on a journey. But still, she hired her brother because they were twins and she wanted them to succeed together.
For the past two months, they were able to produce sixteen episodes. Her twin brother was smart and a study freak after all. At mas lalo siyang naging study freak ngayong Grade 12 students na kami.
"It's not about the money," tanggi naman ni Rabi sa akusasyon niya kanina, saka ito muling humarap sa laptop nito. "I can't fully commit to our webcomics anymore, Ruma. I have my own life, too. Pinagbigyan lang kita no'ng summer vacation kasi wala naman tayong ginagawa no'n."
"What are you busy with?" sita nito. "You don't belong to any club, do you? Ako 'tong may part-time job sa'tin, 'tapos mas busy ka pa sa'kin? Ano ba kasi 'yang gagawin mo para i-drop mo ang Dazzling World?"
Well, it wasn't really a part-time job.
"It's none of your business," masungit na sabi ng kakambal niya. "And please get out of my room. Nag-a-amoy tuna na dito, eh."
"Be honest with me, Rabi Agustin," seryosong sabi niya. "Ano bang problema mo at gusto mo nang tapusin ang Dazzling World? We've only started, you know. We can't drop our project like this."
The site doesn't pay artists unless they become famous and reach a certain number of views, though. Only then do they become "featured artists" and get monthly compensation.
I'm not really eager to be compensated because as long as I see my story as a webcomics, I'll be happy and contented.
"I'm starting to get uncomfortable, Ruma Agustin."
"Uncomfortable with what?"
"The story," sagot ni Rabi, saka siya nito nilingon. This time, he looked at her with cold eyes that actually made her feel small. "I just realize that I hate the romance genre and the cornier the story gets, the cringer I feel."
Ruma was shookt by the revelation. "How can my twin brother hate the thing I love most?!"
