When their eyes first met from across the room
They immediately knew of the dangers lurking
But over their smitten hearts couldn't be cast gloom
Their eyes were gleaming, their lips were smirking

They rushed through a romance, spectacularly swift
It was forbidden from the first minute, to the bitter end
As their love caused through an entire country a rift
That not an army in the world could ever mend

Where the lovers met, trapped in a lovely daze
The fires sparked, and started to run wild
Two lovebirds had not quite gone out in such a blaze
To call it star-crossed would be too mild

Because of their heartfelt romance, the world took such a hit
That it is now even forbidden to merely write a sonnet about it
