A home is no place to hide,
Her heart is breaking from the pain that she feels
Brooklyn's P.O.V
There was no way in hell I was going to stay with Evelyn and the others, there's no way I could. I had to take care of my mother first, she's the only family I've got at this point. Besides, who else was going to stop her from drinking everyday? Opening the door to my apartment, i walked in, and threw my bag on the floor. "Mom?" i called, i didn't get an answer. "Mom??" i tried again, this time i heard a muffled groan come from upstairs, please don't have more than one bottle, please she could get really aggressive when she had more than one bottle. I made my way up the stairs, and opened the door to her room, there where three beer bottles scattered on the floor, my mother had a fourth one in her hand. She hazily looked at me "w......welcome home" she mumbled, taking a sip i furrowed my eyebrows and glared at her, "drinking isn't good for you, you of all people should know that doctor" i put emphasis on the doctor to prove my point. I sighed, and slowly began to pick up the beer bottles, i turned to look at my mother who was crying. "Mom, its okay i didn't mean that" i walked towards her and attempted to give her a hug, she brushed it away and looked at me, "I'm so sorry i can't be the mother you wanted" she said, her voice cracking, "I'm sorry i drink and barely come home to see you" i fell silent, i didn't really know what to say, she was right, this wasn't the life i wanted.
She got up and took the beer bottles out of my hands, throwing them away in her trash can near her desk. She then mentioned for me to come with her, downstairs leading me into the kitchen, she grabbed a cake mix, i gasped, it was the funfetti birthday cake. My mother smiled at me, "you didn't think i would forget that your birthday is in a couple of days did you?" she said, pouring the mix out, we used to bake cakes a lot when i was a kid. Back when dad was still alive, "just like old times?" she asked, jokingly putting white frosting on my nose.
"Just like old times" i answered, smiling.
