Back in the deep, deep ocean, near the surface, Kale is floating aimlessly to the rhythm of the water. The sun's rays are radiating beautifully through the surface, shining down on him. His body is limp with a relaxed expression and closed eyes on his face as his thick hair flows majestically above him.
Suddenly, Kale flicks his eyes open as he snaps back to consciousness. His foggy mind starts fumbling memories and thoughts around, attempting to comprehend what just happened, where he is, and what is going on.
He sees the never-ending blueness of the ocean stretching beyond his vision with the sun rays penetrating through the surface. He automatically turns himself around, scoping his surroundings.
Kale's eyes immediately wide at what is behind him.
Reid is gradually sinking with his eyes closed and a slacken movement. He shows no sign of consciousness.
In a heartbeat, Kale bolts to his friend, scooping him into his two bare arms, and propels himself toward the surface.
Water explodes in all direction as the two former teammates blast through the surface.
Kale lets out a huge exhale, yet he does not feel the need to cough. His hair flops over his eyes, obscuring most of his vision. He feels the cool coastal wind hitting his wet skin, shooting a prickling sensation through him.
Kale whips his head back, managing to get most of his soaked hair from his eyes. He peers down to check on Reid.
His friend is still in his arms, now fully awake. He has a surprised expression at him.
"Are you okay, Duker?!" Kale blurts out, giving him a panicked expression.
He nods his head. "Yeah, I'm fine." With his free hand, he brushes his plastered blond hair from his face. "I thought that I was gonna drown, so I was surrendering myself to my apparent fate."
Kale lets out a sigh of relief. "Well, at least you're still alive..." His voice fades off as his eyes land on what is below Reid's waist.
Instead of his swimming trunks, he now has a cobalt blue-coloured trunk with the scaly texture of a fish.
Reid follows Kale's centre of attention, spotting his new addition. He then automatically lifts the end of his trunk through the surface and into view: It is a majestic fin in the shape of a whale's tail.
His eyes immediately light up at the sight. "Ooo!"
"AAAHHH!!!" In fright, Kale throws his hands in the air, letting go of him.
Reid instantly falls through the surface, coming right back into view in a matter of seconds. He spots Kale continuing screaming.
"What are you screaming at?!" he snaps at him with a perplexed expression. "You got a tail too!"
Kale shuts his mouth, freezing for a moment. He then promptly lifts his legs, which felt as if they were glued together to work as one, into view, quickly noticing that they are no longer legs. Instead, he now bears a stunning midnight blue-coloured tail glinting in the sunlight.
He stares at it with massive eyes. Then he screams: "AAAHHH!!!" and falls backward into the water.
Reid instantly dives in and comes back up, pulling Kale with him over the surface.
"What happened to my legs? What happened to my legs? What happened to my legs?!" Kale cries out hysterically, spinning around in circles while creating splashes. He spins back to his friend. "I need them to play hockey!"
"They're now a tail!" Reid replies with a grin, holding his hands out toward him.
Kale drops his hands through the surface, gaping at him with knitted eyebrows. "Why are you so happy about this?!"
"Because we're MERMEN!" He throws his hands in the air and holds them there. "Isn't it sooo cool!?!"
"How. Can. We. Walk?" Kale gazes hard at him.
"Who says we need to walk?" He shrugs with his hands still out at him. "We swim!" He holds his arms out from his sides.
"But we need to walk to get to the car and go home!" Kale exclaims, smacking the water with his hands.
"Weee..." Reid swims around in a small circle, facing Kale once again. "...swim home!" He throws his hands in the air in a showy fashion.
Kale proceeds to cover his face with his hands. "Oh my goodness..."
"Rejoice! We are now a new species!" Reid dives into the water, reappearing seconds later next to his friend. "Let's go discover the ocean firsthand!"
He then begins to sing "Under The Sea" from The Little Mermaid:
Under the sea!
Under the sea!He submerges himself back into the ocean.
Kale follows him with his eyes. "No, Reid—" He plunges in after him.
Reid is swimming through the great space of blueness, darting under the fleeting light of the sun.
Nobody beat us,
Fry us, or eat us,
Take it from me!"You mixed up the lyrics...," Kale notifies him loudly, coming after him. His eyes then widen at a surprising realization. "I can talk underwater...!"
The two then disappear in the massive ocean as Reid's singing fades through the water.
