"We have to get out of here," I whisper to Percival without looking at him.
"No I think I'm starting to like it here," he replies sarcastically.
"Now is not the time to be funny!" I snap at him before regaining my composure. "Now we have to find some way out. Maybe we could use our magic or something."
I see Percival's shoulders slump out of my peripheral vision. "You really are slow."
I immediately turn my head in his direction. "What the heck is that supposed to mean?!"
His eyes widen. "Lower your voice before they hear us," he warns, his teeth gritted so he's a little more quiet. "Don't you think I already tried that? I attempted using my magic as soon as we got here, but the chains we have on are specifically for those with magic powers."
My face immediately gets red. "Sorry. Magic still isn't instinctive for me."
"Well start making it instinctive. Now since we can't use magic, we've got to rely on our natural strength and how far we're willing to go to get out of this place."
As soon as he finishes talking, he twists his arm in a way that looks incredibly painful and begins working on breaking the shackles. I gasp.
"Did you just dislocate your arm?"
"Well you weren't going to do it." He lifts his head and looks me straight in the eye. "Trust me. I've been in worse situations before." Then he continues to focus on breaking the metal. "Each day that we spend in here means another day that Jack slips farther away from us. We've got to get out as soon as possible."
I sigh. "You know metal is harder to break than it looks. I honestly don't think you're going to be able to break it off with your bare hands."
Percival chuckles. "Then you don't exactly know what I'm capable of sweetheart."
Muscles stretching and pulsing, he disconnects the chain and the wrist cuff in one motion. My mouth practically falls open.
"Are you serious?! How the hell did you manage that?!"
"I told you I was an underground fighter."
"How is that supposed to prove that you can break metal using just your body?!"
"Keep your voice down," he growls. "How many times do I have to tell you that?" With a groan, he quickly snaps his arm back into place. That was disgusting.
I look down at my restraints. No way am I going to dislocate, twist, or break anything to get out of these things. I'll find a different way. I close my eyes and clear my thoughts, trying to break them off using my magic. When I open my eyes, the restraints are still there, but they're glowing. They begin burning my flesh. I scream from the pain and Percival's hand clamps over my mouth to muffle my cries.
"What did you not understand about what I told you? You can not use your magic. The more force you apply, the more it ends up hurting you."
I whimper as I look at my burnt wrists. There has to be some way to break these. I'm not strong enough to break them physically. I have no other choice but to use magic.
Suddenly, the door swings open and Adric swiftly walks in. He takes one glance at Percival's unbound arm and scowls. "Trying to escape, huh? I heard the screams and decided I should investigate."
I narrow my eyes at him. He returns my look of vulgar with a charming smile. His eyes zoom in on my wrists. "So you were the one making that atrocious howl. Serves you right for using magic. Magic is an abomination. The people that use it should be punished." His eyes dance with determination and hatred.
