"I choose you. And I'll choose you over and over and over. Without pause, without a doubt, in a heartbeat, I'll keep choosing you."

———

(Thomas' POV)

"Alex?" I asked, smirking, "is that really you?"

Alex had grown a little taller since I'd last seen him. Still shorter than me, but he was less of a midget. His long dark hair was down instead of in its usual ponytail. But his eyes, looked different.

They looked dull, and broken. He gave a small smile then said,

"Thomas Jefferson, I'll be damned."

Alex smirked, putting a hand at his hip. I was now leaning against a lamp post, then said,

"It's been awhile, you've gotten taller."

"Says the literal tree." Alex said, gesturing to me, "I must've gotten shorter."

I laughed, messing up his hair.

He smiled genuinely then said,

"It really has been a long time Thomas, what 13 years?" Alex asked, moving my hand from his head.

I scoffed then nodded,

"So what have you been up to? How have things been in New York?" I asked.

"I should be asking you." He mumbled in a shallow tone, looking across the street. He froze and quickly looked the other way.

"Hey," I put a hand on his shoulder, "is everything okay?" I asked, concern lacing my voice.

"Yeah, why wouldn't it be?" Alex asked, rubbing the back of his neck.

I knew better than to dwell on the subject for too long so I asked him if he wanted to go somewhere with me.

"Right now?" Alex asked, making hand gestures as to indicate the time.

"Yeah, we haven't hung out in awhile and this is my last month here so why not make the most of it?" I said, trying to lighten the mood.

He thought for a moment and then I saw him lightly nod, his eyes glancing up at me. He smiled genuinely before saying,

"Where did you have in mind?"

———

We drove several miles before stopping at a store to get some stuff.

"Thomas where are we going?" Alex asked as he took a bottled glass of coffee out of a fridge.

I smirked at him and said simply,

"You'll have to wait and see."

He frowned, walking off into another isle until he stopped in front of a bag of chips, and took them.

I followed him as he ran to the back of the store where there were many other assorted items such as books, pencils, pens, and other things. He stopped in front of a small blue notebook and took it.
