EPISODE IV

"Noona. Noona, wake up. Our stop is next," Namseon shook me awake. I opened my eyes and looked around, there were fewer people on the bus. "You fell asleep again, Noona."
I pinched his cheeks, "Thanks, Seon -ah. What would I do without you?"
"You wouldn't get home." He pulled my hands away and giggled.
     "Oh, be quiet."
The bus came to a full stop before the driver opened the doors to let us out. I stepped off first and helped Namseon off.
"Agh, you're getting so big. I don't know how long Noona can keep carrying you."
"I'm nine years old now, I can get off the bus on my own," he whined.
"What's wrong?" I stopped to face him.
"Well, it's just embarrassing. Everybody else at school gets to go home on their own, why can't I?"
I knelt down and grabbed his shoulders, "Seon-ah, we talked about this before. Everyone at school lives close to school."
"Don't you mean it's because we live in a bad neighborhood?" He crossed his arms and turned his back on me.
"Yah! We don't live in a bad neighborhood... it's just not safe for a kid to be walking around alone," I lowered my voice for the second part. "You never complain when Jin picks you up, what's wrong with me picking you up?" I held his hand and gently motioned him to get up, after we continued out way home.
     "Jin hyung's cool, noona."
     "And I'm not?"
"No, you're cool, but all the boys at school like him because he plays soccer with us when he comes to pick me up."
"He does that?" Namseon nodded. I had no clue. "Oh, well... um, that's great!"
We made it up the hill and turned onto our street.
"I've been meaning to ask you, noona, where did you get that necklace from?" Namseon curiously asked.
Confused, I reached for my neck; I realized what he was talking about when my hand landed on the diamond necklace Jungkook gave me last week. I still couldn't believe he did that, I mean, how much did it cost him to get this? He even got it engraved with his initials.
I want people to know that you're mine- Jungkook's words have been playing in my head like a broken record.
"Oh, this small thing." I was embarrassed that he even noticed. "It's nothing."
"Did a boy give it to you?" He stared up at me and I just couldn't lie to those eyes.
     "Okay, maybe."
"Do you like him?" He smiled.
"I don't know," I replied, because I actually didn't know. My emotions this past week have been all over the place and I just don't know how to feel. No matter what, I can't let myself catch feelings for him. He's my boss after all and nothing good ever comes from falling in love with your boss, no matter how amazing they may look in a suit and tie, it's just plain wrong. I shook the image of Jungkook out of my mind and looked up to see Jin walking home from the opposite direction as us.
"Hyung!" Namseon ran into his arms.
"Hey there, bud. How's my favorite nine year old?" Jin picked him up and carried him on his back.
"Noona has a boyfriend!" He screamed out.
     "What?! No I don't," I yelled at him. I looked at Jin, "I don't."
"It's true, a boy gave her a necklace, look!" He pointed at the necklace around my neck. Jin saw and stepped closer to have a better look.
"Well, I'd say whoever this lucky boy is, he's rich." He said, admiring the necklace.
"Let's go inside, I have something to show you!" Seon-ah pulled on both Jin and me.
"Now, hold on just a second there my little man. Noona's gotta get to work, but why don't you and I have a little guys night, just you and me, huh?" Jin checked on me to see if that was okay. I nodded.
"Really?" Seon-ah lit up like a Christmas tree, "Okay!" Before the both of us could think about it, he grabbed his backpack and ran up to the stairs to our apartment in a mad dash.
Jin laughed, "For just a kid, he's really fast."
     "Thank you," I expressed.
     "Don't mention it."
"No, I mean it. Thank you for taking care of Seon-ah for me. He's getting older now and he really needs an older male figure to look up to, I'm glad he has you, Jin."
He smiled and messed up my hair, "Anything for family, I'm glad I can be there for him." Jin noticed me playing with my necklace, "Was it that young boss of yours?"
     "Huh?"
"Did your boss get you that necklace?" He rephrased.
"Oh, yeah." I felt kinda embarrassed talking to Jin about this.
"That's good. I think he's an okay guy, but I think you should be careful around him."
"What do you mean?" I suddenly remembered that day we blew the basement door open, Jin left without saying goodbye to me. Did that have anything to do with this? "Why'd you leave early that day at the Manner?"
"I have something I think you should know about him-" he was cut off by the sound of my phone going off.
"Hold on just a sec," I reached into my bag and answered my phone. "Hello?"
"Ms. Ah, young master has asked you to come into work at the office instead of the Manner today," I heard Mr. Lee's voice through the speaker say and checked the time, I was supposed to go in at four, but  the office was an extra thirty five minute drive from the Manner.
"O-oh, okay. Alright, I'll be there as soon as possible." I turned back to Jin, "I'm sorry, I have to go, but let me know what you were going to say, tonight when I get home."
"Go," He smiled and waved me off.

_______

I got to the office and let the secretary at the front desk know I was there for Jungkook. I've only met her twice before this and I've got to say, each time, she left a bad impression on me. I first encountered her the day the American delegates came; I needed to get up to the floor where the meeting was taking place but no matter what I tried she wouldn't let me take the elevator up, so I took the stairs up. I lied to Jungkook that day when he asked why I used the stairs instead of the elevator because I didn't want to cause any trouble, especially not before an important meeting. The second time I saw her was at the dinner party where she complained about how crowded the party was, which I don't see why she would come to the party in the first place if she didn't like crowded spaces, and rolled her eyes every chance she got.
She didn't look too happy to see me standing in front of her desk. I waited and this time she let me up. I walked down the hall, passed all the work rooms and stopped when I got to Jungkook's office. I knocked before entering.
"Master?" I looked around. His office here was much larger than his study back home; taller floor to ceiling bookshelves, a full sized desk and by the looks of it there was even a small loft upstairs.
I heard Jungkook coming down the metal spiral steps. "Oh, Ah Lina. Sit," he pointed to his desk.
What was this about? Did he finally come to his senses and realize that I've definitely exceeded my three strikes? Well, that wouldn't be fair, should I remind him that I technically saved his life, or would that be like adding more fuel to the flame? I was too caught up in my thoughts that I didn't see the invitation be placed in front of me. As soon as I noticed it I reached for it and read the flyer. I reread it at least ten times to make sure I was reading it correctly: The Seoul Red Carpet Event. I looked up at him and back at the invitation.
"I'm taking you as my plus one," he saw me smiling from ear to ear. "Don't get too excited, I'm only taking you in case something happens."
I looked down and tried to control my smile but I just couldn't. I've never been to a red carpet event before, I used to watch people go to them on tv and always wished it was me in their place. I couldn't believe I was about to live that dream. I checked the date on the flyer, it was this Saturday, this Saturday was also Seon-ah's art show at school and I promised I would go.
"Uh, Sir, I'm sorry but I can't go."
     "Why not?" He asked.
"I already have other plans for this Saturday."
"Then cancel them, this is your job," he didn't show any signs of empathy and it crushed me to know that I had no choice other than to break my promise with Seon-ah.
