~*~*~*~*~*~
I had a hard time falling asleep last night and once I fell I asleep I had an even harder time staying asleep. At 6:30 I decided to give up on the idea of sleep and went down stairs. I entered the dining room and noticed that all the plates and silverware were all placed nicely on the table, but oddly enough there didn't seem to be signs of anyone in the kitchen preparing food.
I walked into the kitchen and I was right; nobody was in there. The groceries that were delivered to the house every morning were brought in and everything accept for the ingredients that were going to be used for breakfast was either stored into the fridge or put away in the pantry. There were no signs of any of the servant being up making things even more odd.
I walked back into the dining room and sat down in my chair. The house was eerily quiet; only the rustling of the leaves in the mid summer breeze and faint chirping of the birds could be heard. This was peaceful. I looked around the room and the reality of it all hit me. This is my house now, my company to run and everything was on the weight of my shoulders.
"What could young master be thinking about this early in the morning?" An all too familiar voice spoke.
I smirked, knowing who it was. "It's none of your concern, Mr. Lee. Where's Ah Li-Nah? I need her to prepare a few things for me."
"I'm afraid she already left about an hour ago," he said as he placed a cup of coffee in front of me. "You should really start learning how to do simple things like making coffee, young master; you're not a kid anymore."
I took a sip of my coffee and checked the clock on the wall. It was five minutes before seven. Where could have that naive assistant of mine gone so early in the morning?
"Seeing as she isn't here right now, I can do whatever it is you need, young master," Mr. Lee stated.
"I'm afraid this is a confidential matter, strictly business related. Nothing meant for a servant." I enjoyed ticking him off. How does it feel to be on top and suddenly be kicked down to the bottom? Are you enjoying it, my dear old friend?
"I understand," his cold tone didn't match his cheery expression.
"Good, you are dismissed," I excused him.
He walked towards the doors, only to stop before exiting. "I just thought it would be good for young master to know that the delegates from America will be coming in this afternoon to speak to you about the Blaze Project," he smiled and left the room.
What delegates? What project? Did I miss something important while going through the company files last night? I don't remember reading anything on the Blaze Project.
I picked up my phone and put it to my ear.
"Ah Li-Nah? It's me."________
I impatiently stood outside the conference room waiting for Ah Li-Nah to show up with the files on the Blaze Project. I had ten minutes before the meeting with the American delegates. She hasn't been picking up any of my calls, but as my last desperate attempt I called her again. I waited as the ringing continued.
"Come on, pick up. Pick up your phone you worthless little-"
The doors to the stairs busted open revealing an out of breath Ah Li-Nah.
"Where were you?" I ran over to her.
"Sorry, the elevator was out of service so I had to take the stairs," she said between pants.
Was she crazy? We were on the top floor of the company building.
"We're on the fourteenth floor!" I looked at her in complete shock.
"I know, but I had to get this to you," she exhaustedly pulled out a file from her brief case and hand it to me. I took the files from her and checked the papers inside. These were it; typed at the top in bold black ink it said, The Blaze Project: Cure for children in need.
Was this kind of stupid loyalty the reason my mother trusted her so much? I couldn't tell if she went through the pain of going up twenty flights of stairs as my assistant or as my mother's loyal dog.
She brushed off her skirt and straightened up. There were little drops of sweat collecting on her forehead; she took out a handkerchief and dabbed the sweat off her face. I had time to notice what she was wearing. She wore a simple light grey dress shirt and a tight black knee length skirt. I looked down at her feet and noticed she was wearing the shoes I had got her.
"I told you to wear something nice!" I scolded her.
"Yah! This is the nicest thing I own," she defended.
"What's the point of wearing nice shoes, if you're going to ruin it by wearing shabby clothes with them? What a waste," I covered my face with my hand.
"Don't you have a meeting to get to?" She asked bluntly.
She was right. "How do I look?" I straightened up.
She didn't reply; instead she came towards me, breaking my three step rule and grabbed my tie. "Yah! What do you think you're doing?" My eyes went wide.
"Fixing your tie," She undid it and wrapped it around my neck again. "Geez, who put this on?" She asked.
I coughed.
"Did you put this on yourself?"
I looked to the side as she continued to put on my tie.
"You did, didn't you?" She laughed.
"Watch the informalities when you speak to me."
"Pardon me." She went quiet.
"I'll let it slide this one time." I rolled my eyes. "Are you almost done, I'm going to be late."
She secured the tie around my neck and patted down my shirt, "There, now you look like a presentable president of a respectable company."
"Thank you," I mumbled.
The doors to the conference room opened and someone held the door open. "Mr. Jeon, they're ready for you."
I tightened my grip on the files and entered the room that would determine the fate of my mother's plan.~*~*~*~*~*~
