Every staff member in Jeon Manner was put to work in search for the basement key, even some of the irregular staff members. Furniture was pushed back, people ran up and down the stairs, no spot in the House was to be left unchecked; Jungkook was being scary serious, pushing everyone to scour the house frantically for the key.
I sat down on one of the benches by the front door to rest and collect some of my thoughts. I wiped the sweat off my forehead and looked around and watched as everyone worked hard to find this key. Where could it be? A shadow loomed over me and I looked up to see who it was.
"Oh, Master. What are you doing here?" I asked. From all the commotion in the house I haven't seen Jungkook much at all this afternoon.
"I live here, don't I?" He questioned me matter of factly.
I let out a little laugh to lighten the mood, "Of course, Master, I guess that was a rather silly question of me to ask." I smiled up at him but he didn't reciprocate the same kindness.
"What are you doing?" He snapped. I got up and straightened my self out, he didn't seem to be in a playful mood. "It must be fun watching everybody else do all the work."
"It's not like that, sir. I was just taking a rest, that's all."
"Am I paying you to rest?"
"No, but I-"
"Am I giving you a place to live just so you can give me excuses?"
"No, but-"
"Go help them." He ordered, them exited into the dinning hall.
I don't get him. I thought things were going well with him; his mood seemed better and he seemed to be warming up to me a little. But then, there were times like this afternoon where he goes back to the cold closed off man that I first met at the funeral. I didn't want to dwell any longer on the fascinating mess that was Jungkook's mind and decided that it was best for me to do what he told me to do. So I went upstairs and looked for good spots a key might be in.
As I roamed the endless loops of connecting halls, I came across a another staircase that lead up to a section of the house I've still yet to enter: The East Wing. I vaguely remember Jungkook mentioning to me that the east wing of the house was strictly off bounds, but with searching everywhere else in this house and the key still not showing up, one's got to wonder maybe, just maybe the key could be in there somewhere. I got to the top of the steps and peered down into the hall that connected into the east wing. It was like staring into a deep abyss; the darkness consumed everything and, in a way, called out to me.
I slowly let the darkness swallow me as I inched deeper and deeper into the east wing. As far as I could tell there was only one single door in this entire hall, by the way it looked I knew there was something behind it, something I wasn't supposed to find. I knew I shouldn't be doing this but I was tempted by curiosity and that kind of pure tempt is the kind that gets you to make stupid decisions like walking down a hallway you know you're not supposed to and turning the knob to a door that you know will lead you to something bad. I knew, but I did it anyway. I slowly opened the door, scrunching up my nose to the awful creaking noise it made and braced myself for whatever was awaiting me on the other side; but before I could do all that, someone grabbed me by my arm and quickly forces the door shut behind me. Because of the utter darkness surrounding us I couldn't tell who was leading me out, but whoever this was, they had ice cold hands.
Once we entered back into the day lit area of the main hall I could finally see who it was.
"Soojin?" I was surprised to see her.
"You mustn't go down there, my lady. Nobody is allowed anywhere near Master's room," the lines in her forehead were deeper than usual.
"Why?"
"If you have even a sliver of respect for Master and his family you will never come back up here ever again. This is for both my safety and yours."
The look in her eyes told me everything I needed to know. Whatever was behind that door wasn't meant for me to see, it was something that was meant to stay up there and for me to trust and believe that whatever it is, it wasn't going to change my respect for Jungkook.Later that evening after dinner, I stayed behind to help with the dishes and a thought appeared. If nobody was allowed up there, what was Soojin doing there? What does she know that I don't? I mean, she has been working for the Jeon for over sixteen years, she's bound to know somethings that nobody else does. As these thoughts raced around in my head, someone slid next to me and whispered something in my ear.
"Don't you find it weird that even after searching every single corner and crevice of this house, the key still hasn't shown up?" I turned around and found myself face to face with Mr Lee. "Young Master wasn't anywhere to be seen today, maybe he's hiding something, maybe something like a key?"
"What are you trying to say?" I looked at him suspiciously.
"Where's the one place in this house that nobody except for him is allowed in?"
The East Wing, I mouthed.
Mr Lee noticed and smirked, "Exactly!" He was no longer whispering. "Who knows what he's hiding up there?"
"But why would he hide the key?" I wasn't allowing myself to believe him that easily.
"He's just having a bit of fun, that's all. Who are we to him? Just servants. Watching us running around, it's all a fun game to him."
I turned my head away from him. Jungkook wouldn't do that.
"I can safely bet the key is up there in his room, why else wouldn't we allowed up there?" He said before leaving the room.
I finished up with the last of the dishes and headed upstairs to my room. Closing the door behind me, I plopped down on my bed and closed my eyes. There's no way Jungkook would hide the key and have his entire house staff search for it just for some sick game. But then again, why would Mr Lee have to make up such a crazy false accusation? I feel like the longer I stay in this house the more secrets seem to unfold and I'm slowly going to start being careful with who I trust while I'm here.~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~
