"Man, I've been grinding this new member of my party for hours now, this had better be worth it." King said, looking down at his portable system.
*Huff huff* "King, if you're going to be out here with me you could at least pay attention." I said as I continued my strength training, knocking down multiple trees at once with the force of my punch.
King looked up at me, he fiddled with the device for a moment, closing it and shoving it into his pocket. "Sorry, it gets tiring just watching you do this for hours on end. Don't you think it's time to take a break?" He asked, walking up to me.
I sighed and fell onto my back, exhausted. "I knew you were pushing yourself too far again. You've been training like this for a month now. You've got plenty of time to continue your training." King said, sitting down next to me.
I raised my hand to the sky, covering the sun with my hand. "I don't know, I just want to make sure I'm strong enough when the next big threat arrives. Plus, I haven't even been able to wear the full weight set the association sent me yet."
King leaned over, examining me. "I've been meaning to ask this, what exactly are the weighted pieces of clothing that you're wearing?" I looked at him and sat up. "Oh, right. I guess I never told you did I?"
He shook his head, the two of us standing up. "Well, let me break this down. I wear weighted shoes, arm braces, and this vest you see here, under that we have the last piece, a weighted undershirt." I smiled at him. "That last one is a new addition, it would also typically be the last thing I would take off in a fight."
King groaned. "I don't even want to imagine that amount of weight being on my body." He said with a comically scared face. I couldn't help but laugh at him. "Hey, don't laugh at me! Not all of us can be freakishly strong like you!"
I slowly stopped laughing. "Sorry, sorry. Look, I may be super strong but you're still the best at video games, I don't think I've beat you once yet." King let out a strong exhale of air. "That's true but what does that really matter when we have people like you and Saitama running around." King looked down in shame. "Compared to you two I'm nothing..."
I understood what King was feeling, he felt ashamed at his current position. He was willingly taking money for what he saw as nothing. "King, look, I understand that you feel small right now and feel scummy for what you're doing. However, you have to understand the good that you are doing. If it weren't for these false rumors that spread around you then people could have gotten hurt. Just you being somewhere deters a lot of monsters from even attacking."
He still seemed unconvinced. I wracked my head for something that would get through to him."Oh, it's like a passive in the games we play. Your passive ability is intimidation, so with the help of that ability then you're able to end fights before they even start."
He seemed to perk up just a bit but stayed the same. I looked over to the set of mixed weights I brought along. I walked over to them and picked up the homemade arm weights I made back in the day. I dug into them and removed a lot of the weight I had added onto them over time.
"Yo, King." He looked over to me. "Catch." I threw the weights to him. He barely caught them and seemed to be struggling a bit to hold them up.
"What the hell?" He said, annoyed. "I may not have removed enough weight I guess..." I said to the side. "Look, if you want to feel like you belong where you are in life then you're going to have to work for it. And that starts with putting those weights on." He looked at me and then the weights.
He stared at them for quite awhile, his intense heartbeat ringing through my ears. I rubbed the back of my head. "It was only a suggestion, I'm not going to for-"
