{ Ren's POV }
I woke up to Alec and Isabelle yelling at each other in my room. "Seriously?!" I yelled and they looked at me. "Sorry Ren." They both muttered and I stood up and crossed my arms. "Get out of here."
"So I can change Alec." I said and Alec ran after Isabelle. I sighed and walked over to my closet.
Isabelle jogged in. "What do you need Isabelle?" I asked, looking at her in my mirror as I put slight touches of makeup on around my eyes. "I brought you this."
She said and I took the bow and the overstuffed quiver. "Thanks." I said and she nodded. "I'm glad you and Alec made up. It would've been very tough to get things done if a pair of parabatai were fighting." She said.
I smiled and I hugged her tightly.
I pulled back and pulled my leather jacket on and pulled the hood over my head. "Thanks."
I said quietly as she put the pendant around my neck again.
I hung a charm bracelet on my wrist, which Magnus Bane had given me to contact him in an emergency or my direst hour of need when I didn't have Alec.
I sighed and walked out of the room, my bow and quiver over my shoulder. I had only slept for about an hour before I got woken up.
I sighed and met them standing there. Jace and Clary were with Alec. I clamped my hand over Alec's and I felt his hand against mine.
"Parabatai." And I released his hand and he nodded and I pulled up my sleeve. "There's some runes that only parabatai can draw." I said when I saw Clary looking confused.
I tossed the stele to Alec who drew a rune that I recongnized as shared strength. I did the same on his arm.
"Let's go." I said and pulled my sleeve down. "We're going to a cemetery." I said and disappeared, racing ahead with Alec.
"Do you ever regret it?" I asked Alec, looking at him as we walked through the cemetery, waiting for Clary, Jace, and Isabelle to catch up.
"Regret what?" He asked and I leaned my head on his shoulder as we walked.
"Not forming the parabatai bond with Jace? Or Isabelle?" I asked, looking at him, my eyes serious.
"Nope. Never regret it. Isabelle would be too annoying and so would Max. Jace wouldn't listen to me anyways, he's so rebellious."
Alec said and I nodded. "If you had known who my father was before we formed the parabatai bond with each other, would you still have done it?" I asked, my voice shaking as I asked the brutal question.
Without more then a second's pause, he looked at me. "No." He said and I nodded and looked down.
"Fair enough." I whispered, voice barely audible and full of agony and pain. Jace and Clary caught up as Isabelle went off.Clary found Mary Mulligan's grave. I pulled the lid off and took a sword. "Jace teach her how to use it." I said and walked away, slashing and parrying at imaginary foes as I did.
I heard Alec's soft footfalls behind me. I looked at him and he grabbed my hand in his warm one, with rough calluses from sword training. "I didn't mean it like that Ren."
He said and I looked at him.
"Then how did you mean it then Alec? Because it sure seems like you said specifically..." I said.
"That you wouldn't die for me like we swore to each other we would. I know I would do it for you." I said and he looked at me, his eyes hurt.
"You can go back to the Institute, I won't be the one to stop you." I said and he walked away, his face upset.
I buried my face in my hands, my eyes leaking tears. I looked to see Jace and Clary standing there, their eyes wide. I stood up and picked my bow up from the ground.
"What are you looking at?" I growled and they shook their heads. "Well let's kick some Night Children ass." I said and raced off, pulling an arrow into my bowstring as I climbed up the side of a building.
I surveyed the city, my sharpshooter eyes scanning the city for potential threats.
I saw the Hotel DuMort and I smirked. "Got you." I said and drew a rune for clairvoyance on my wrist and I could see even more clearly, every vampire in the building. I saw Raphael, but decided to leave him alone for now. I leaped down and landed on the rooftop next to the Hotel DuMort and heard an engine.
I saw Jace and Clary landing on a modified motorcycle that had clearly belonged to a vampire once. I looked at the ground and smiled.
I leaped down and found no vampires and heard a bowstring. "Alec." I whispered and smiled.
"You two go find Simon. I'll help the Lightwoods." I said and released an arrow, sending a vampire up in flames. I flipped and shot in two different directions before I landed rolling up to my feet again.
I felt fangs sink into my leg and I let out a roar of pain and fury.
Suddenly an arrow that wasn't from me sent the vampire up in smoke. I smiled and Alec helped me up, his arm covered in swirling black runes. I smiled and hugged him as I shot over his shoulder.
Suddenly I spun around to see a vampire holding Clary by the neck. "Okay." Alec said and shifted his aim to the left and fired.
The arrow went through the wall and sent the vampire up in smoke. "Where's Simon?" I asked. "Couldn't find..." And I saw Raphael with a knife pressed to Simon's jugular.
"Found him." I said and suddenly Silver dropped down next to me.
"Oh how cute. Two pairs of parabatai, one half trained Shadowhunter, and one Shadowhunter who's trained but doesn't have a parabatai."
And I looked at him. "Give us our mundane Raphael." I said and he shook his head. "Follow me." And we followed him. "Open the door!"
And I did. Alec went out, then Silver, then Isabelle and Clary. I caught Simon. "Thank you Raphael." I said and he shook his head. "Your mundane friend is worthless in the war that is coming Ren Fairchild."
He said and I looked at him.
"Jace Wayland!" Raphael called and Jace looked at him. "Remember who your friends are." And Jace slammed the door behind him, leaving Raphael to his darkness.
I stood next to Isabelle and Alec. "If you don't trust either of them, then why did you show up tonight Alec?" I yelled, slamming my fist into the metal door and he flinched and walked away. I felt tears in my eyes.
"I'm sorry." I whispered, but he was already gone.
