Ren's POV
At the return of Marse, Robert, and Max Lightwood, Alec called me back into the Institute. I smiled when I saw Max.

"Buddy you're growing so big!" I said and he ran to me, hugging me tightly. "Hey buddy. I've missed you to." And I hugged Marse. "Mom." I Said and she smiled. And suddenly I looked up and shot. Two arrows whistled through the air and the rune wore off and there was a girl standing there.

"That reaction time was abysmal. Except for you two. Alec Lightwood and Ren Fairchild?" And I nodded. "You must be the Clave Envoy." I Said coolly and put Max behind me protectively. "There's no need to be so defensive if you don't have anything to hide."

Lydia Said and I growled coldly. "Don't threaten the safety of the Institute by putting Alec out of the job. He's the best person for the job, and he always has been." I said and Alec looked at me, his face surprised.

"You're parabatai." Lydia Said and I looked at her, my arms tensed up. "Yes we are." Alec Said and I growled and slowly nodded. "And you are distrustful." And I looked at her. "What do you think Branwell?" I Said and people around me stiffened up. "How dare you call me that?"

Lydia growled. "Don't call me Fairchild then." I said, growling in return. "Then as temporary head of this Institute, I declare you banned and not allowed to set foot in this Institute again."

And Alec looked at me and I could hear the guards coming up behind me. I pressed my bow and it turned back into a bracelet.

My bow turned back into my jacket, and I held my hands up above my head, as the guards dragged me out of the Institute.

"Let her go. She's outside the boundaries."

Alec snapped and the guards released me. They walked back inside and he hugged me tightly. "I'm so sorry." He Said and I shook my head. "Not your fault Alec. Do what you think is right. In the head, or in the heart." I said and pulled up my sleeve, a question in my eyes.

He did the same and we clamped our hands together and I felt the bond become deeper. "I'm staying with Magnus. You know what to do if you're in trouble. Either come to me or press the rune. I'll be there in a flash Alec."

I Said and he nodded. "Say hi to Magnus for me." He Said, voice thick with emotion.

"Be quiet." I Said and hugged him and I saw tears shining in his eyes.

"Hey. Don't cry. As soon as she's gone, I'll come back. We're parabatai, I'm not ever leaving you Alec Lightwood." I Said and he nodded. "But I'll haunt you if you do."

And I punched him lightly in the shoulder. He looked at me and I flicked my hand and a portal erupted into view.

The only consequence was when one tree fell down. "You can control it."

Alec Said and I nodded and smiled slightly, my eyes weighed down with sadness. "I'm sorry." I said and he nodded. "So am I. For not realizing how you felt long before I did." Alec Said and I shook my head. "I kept myself behind a guarded wall, it was like I had no line that could be crossed." I said and he nodded. "I know." He said. "So did I." He said and kissed me gently, as if uncertain. I smiled and looked at him, my eyes sparkling with laughter. "Later Lightwood."

And the portal disappeared as I walked through it. I walked right into Magnus who was pouring coffee.

"The new head of Institute banned me." I said as I swiped one of the two cups of coffee. I made my bow and quiver appear on my back and in my hand, looking at the wall. Magnus murmured a spell and the wall disappeared, revealing a training room on the other side. I nodded at Magnus who motioned inside, and I walked into the room, looking around. I sighed and set the training room to the darkest setting so I could use ears and ears alone. Suddenly I heard a whoosh and I stepped to the side, shooting at the training dummies. I pulled out a seraph blade and it lit up.

I slashed through a crowd easily and suddenly I was on my knees in the center of the room. I knew something was happening to Alec. "Magnus!" I yelled, feeling Alec's pain pulse through me. Suddenly I walked through the portal and found a Forsaken. I nocked and released two arrows in quick succession. "Alec." I said and grabbed his hand tightly.

"He." He whispered and I pulled up his shirt and winced. "Probably a couple cracked ribs. Tell me when it hurts okay?"

I said and he nodded. I touched the edge of the bruise and he grunted. I put my hand as gently as I could on the bruise and he groaned, his face tight with pain. I drew itraze and he nodded and shut his eyes as I took away his pain.

"Thanks." He said and suddenly guards came and grabbed me by the upper arms, almost breaking my arms as they forced me up to my feet. "Ren Fairchild, you are under arrest for High Treason and for ignoring the Clave's orders. But of course also, the fact that you're half warlock. Take her away." And the guards marched me away, feeling my arms almost breaking. I looked up from where I was in the interrogation room and saw Alec at the door. He came over and I smiled and stood up facing him. I kissed him, or at least I meant to, but he pushed me away. "Alec what's wrong?"

I asked. "They've Set a trial date. Tomorrow." And I looked at him. "And if I'm found guilty?" I asked. "You'll be stripped of your runes, and me." Alec said and I looked into his eyes and saw uncertainty, something I rarely saw in his eyes. "Tell me what's going on Alec! We can figure this out, we're parabatai." I said and Alec turned away. "I proposed to Lydia Branwell and she accepted." And I looked at him, my eyes not upset exactly, but hurt nonetheless. "Ren I'm..." And I slapped him across the face and he flinched, looking at me. "I saved your damn life, and you don't tell me your engaged to the person who kicked your parabatai out of the Institute until after. Wow Alexander, I had heard better."

I said and he flinched. "Well I was gonna call it off because I didn't want to get stuck with a person whose saving her own ass, but apparently you don't care." And I looked at him, my eyes burning with tears. "That isn't fair Alec." I said and he walked out of the room, door slamming behind him.
