I wake up to my alarm I set for god awful o'clock in the morning. I sit up and rub my eyes. It appears like neither Ryan or Jake made it to bed last night. Their bed is untouched and their packs haven't been disturbed. I get dressed and grab our stuff.
I find the boys downstairs at the lobby bar passed out. I chuck their bags at their backs. They wake up startled after being assaulted. I'm the only mature one out of our group. It's been this way from the beginning though. I'm actually using my football scholarship to get my bachelors in secondary education. I've always wanted to be a teacher one day and I'm going to achieve my goal. These bums actually think they can make a future out of football. I'm worried about the day reality slaps them in the face and they realize that they should've focused more on their grades instead of girls and frat parties.
We make our way over to the rest of the group just as Todd is passing out keys.
"There are only five snowmobiles so everyone will have to pair up. Stephanie and Amy are together. Meghan and Adam get one. We'll have to split the boys up. One will have to ride with miss Alex."
Of course Ryan took the opportunity to flirt. She swaggered over to Alex and put an arm around her shoulders. She immediately tenses and looks uncomfortable. He looks down at her and smirks with an exaggerated wink. She grimaces at him. Yet another girl he's creeped out. We've let her suffer enough.
"Maybe another one of the boys?" Todd said this while making direct eye contact with me. I get the hint loud and clear. I clear my throat.
"I'll share with Alex. I don't mind."
Ryan dropped his arm after hearing this and pouts a moment. As soon as the contact was lost, she visibly relaxed and sighed. She walks up to me and whispers to me nonchalantly.
"Thanks for that."
I just nod in acknowledgement. Todd comes over and hands me a key. I flip it over in my large, ebony hand. It's got the number three written on one side in what appears to be black sharpie. Hanging from the key is a dark green lanyard. While I'm still examining the key, Todd hands the last one to Jake.
"Ha! Look at that Ryan! It looks like I get to drive and you get the bitch seat."
After hearing this Ryan tries to snatch the key from Jake's hand and things get a bit rowdy.
"Enough you two! Everyone follow me. It'll take us about an hour to get to the starting point. We are wasting daylight. Once we get on our snowmobiles, I will lead the way. Everyone follow me in a single file line."
Here we go I guess.
