We've been traveling for awhile now and should be coming up on the starting point any moment now. I figure now is a good time to record some of the landscape and the town when we get to it. I pull my GoPro and selfie stick that it attaches to out of my fanny pack. I turn the camera on to record and attach it to the stick. I then expand the stick out to about two feet. I hold up a bit to get a good angle for the surroundings. Next I adjust it so that the lens is facing me and Kevin. I smile and wave into the camera.
I keep recording as we travel. Eventually I can spot a big brown blob in the distance. It's too far away to see through the snowfall. As we race closer, I can make out more details. The brown blob is actually a tall wooden enclosure of some kind. This has to be the place. We are quickly coming up on it so I take the time to size it up. The walls are wooden and completely surround the town. If I had to guess, I would say that they are between twelve to fifteen feet tall. There seems to be only one entrance. It's a doorway about ten feet tall and probably fifteen feet wide with doors that swing open.
We pull into the entrance and park the snowmobiles right inside the gate and kill the engines. Todd starts to walk up to a man that approaches us and they begin to talk. They are too far away for me to try and decipher what they are saying. I loose interest in them and start to adjust my GoPro. I've attached it to the harness I have on my chest. I'll just keep it rolling for a bit. I've got enough spare batteries and memories cards to record for two weeks straight if I want to.
After I'm done fidgeting with my camera, I start to notice the town. All the building look so old. Like they've just been repaired over the years instead of rebuilt. The next thing I notice is the lack of power lines and electricity of any kind. I guess it makes sense with being in the middle of nowhere. Then I start to scan the area more throughly. The closer I look, the weirder the town gets. I noticed all the windows are nailed shut and the locks on the doors. It's normal to have locks, but these door have them on the outside of the house. It's like they are trying to keep the residents in instead of keeping strangers out.
Suddenly, it all clicks. This is the town Agnes and her father fled to after escaping Winter. The wall, the locks, even the nailed windows are trying to protect the townspeople from falling prey to the evil that destroyed Agnes' home.
