"I had an epiphany."
"What do you mean?", his eyebrows scrunched in confusion.
"Cells. Scientists call the unit that holds our chromosomes, our DNA, a cell because you can not escape who you are."
"Oh God", he rolled his eyes," I'll give it to you, that was deep, but you and I both know that isn't true.I haven't had a real drink since we started this whole charade. That's a change. You've successfully helped me sober up up for almost two whole months."
I sighed.
"Besides, the only reason you're saying that, Ms.Cynicism, is because you don't wanna go shopping.
I groaned. He was on to me.
"You should be grateful! I'm probably the only girl in all of history that doesn't want to waste your money."
"C'mon", he pulled at my arm and lead me into the mall.

"Try this one", he handed me another dress over the dressing room door.
"Why so many?", I puffed as I struggled to get out of the tight fitting, purple sequin, mini dress.
"You have to look absolutely flawless!", he faked a British accent.
"If you like shopping so much, why don't you just go and get something for yourself?"
"Oh don't worry, while you were in there taking 5 years to change, I've had my eye on this pair of Nike's in the shoe section. And some shirts, too."
I zipped into the pink flowy dress he had handed me.I opened the door for him to see, and Heather, the worker he had grabbed to assist us.They looked me up and down, and he rubbed his chin.
"Yes, it looks good, honey.", Heather chimed in.
"Ya", Austin nodded,"But you know, this look would go great with, oh I don't know, a smile.", he noticed my frown.I put on my fakest, cheesiest smile for them.
"Atta girl. So do you like it?"
I picked up pieces of the fabric and looked down.
"I don't know, Austin.I doesn't look any different from the others. I just don't need it-"
"Fine, then we won't stop 'til you find something you like. Heather, could you please go-"
"Fine, I like it, I love it! This is the one.", I piped up before Heather left to get me more things to try on. It was gorgeous, but most importantly, I absolutely did not want to go through all that again.
"Good.", he pulled out his wallet and handed Heather his credit card.
"Now all we need is shoes, and accessories."
I started to shake my head, when I noticed a booth filled with pamphlets of things to do in San Francisco. One in particular caught my eye.
"I have a better idea."

"I asked for the day off, and this will probably be the one and only time they'll ever actually give it to me!"
I had successfully lured him from the mall, and I was determined not to waste the rest of the Tuesday I had left.
"Ugh, if you hate it so much, why not just get a new job then?"
"It's not that easy!"
"Yes it is! San Francisco is a humongous city, with millions of job openings every day.I've already seen like five Help Wanted signs just today."
