I wake up before Mi-young and get dressed, she soon wakes up and gets ready as well. I throw my hair into a ponytail and conceal my marking. Just as I'm about to leave her bedroom she stops me.
"You're just going to leave like that? You don't wear any make up? You look so boring."
"But I look like this everyday." I say trying not to sound offended.
"After a while it gets boring, don't you want to do something a little different?" I consider it for a moment and give in. She drags me to her vanity applies make up to my face. I normally wear a very small unnoticeable amount of makeup so this feels a bit odd but I don't complain. When she finishes, she begins curling the ends on my long brown hair. I still put it up in a ponytail and then Mi-young ties a ribbon around it, "See you look cute!" I look and the mirror and she's not wrong, this whole time I thought she was putting on an extreme amount like a clown but it still looks natural, it just accentuate my facial features. We both grab a container of fruit that her parents left for us each to eat on the way to school. My phone vibrates in my hand but i ignore it once again. "You should really answer that, it could be an emergency."
"No, its fine. I've been meaning to ask you, where did you hear that we were going on a camping trip? it seems like it was untrue." I dodge the topic.
"I heard people in the hallways talking about it I was for sure that it was true, I really wanted to go on a camping trip. Doesn't that sound fun?"
"I wouldn't know, Ive never been one, I don't know what it'd be like."
We arrive at school and walk to class together, we were a little slow walking today so by the time we get to the gate kids are rushing to get to class and we pick up the pace as well. I take my seat and Hae-jin looks at me.
"You were ignoring me, you look different."
"Ah, sorry I was busy since it was Mi-young's birthday, and she wanted to do my make this morning so let her. Does it look funny?"
"It looks pretty." Jae-suk turns around, I didn't even realize he was paying attention to our conversation I lightly blush and Hae-jin lays his head on the table.
When Ms Kim walks in, the class president stands and we follow then bow. We're quiet as we wait for her to speak.
"It looks like everyone is here, I have announcement. In two days we will be going on our class camping trip, I expect that everyone will show up on time so that we can leave together and that you all behave properly, and to those who have low grades and have been causing trouble, you will stay behind and will be on disciplinary action. Also, in two weeks you will be preparing for your practice exam, the practice one is in three weeks and your real final exam is in about two months or so. Its in your best interest to study and stay on top of your work. Is that clear?
I look over to Mi-young who is already excitedly looking at me and she claps her hands. My first camping trip with my friends! I'm sure ill have the best time. If I really want to go on this trip I need to make sure that ahead on all my work, I cant let anything distract me and study as much as I can even if that means not going out. During lunch my group of friends sit in our spot in the cafeteria.
"I knew I was right! Didn't I tell you? This is going to be so much fun! Soo-min you're going to love it, how is this going to only be your first time camping?" I nervously laugh as I feel the attention on me, I probably seem like some wierdo when this is so normal to them.
"Well I've always wanted to I just never got around to it I guess. There are lots of things I want to do, like make a gift for someone, go to an amusement park with my friedns, or wtch fireworks with a person that I like." I confess shyly covering my face.
"Wow, how can you be so cute? Its giving me the chills." Do-hwan jokes.
"Yah, Soo-min, is there something your not telling me? Do you like someone?" Mi-young perks up and quickly shake my head no.
"You've been here for anwhile now and you dont like anyone yet? Im a little disappointed, I wanna be the first to know when you do. So do any of you like someone?" she fishes for a confession, gossip is truly her weakness.
"I like someone." Jae-suk says and we all ooooh at his bold confession, he doesn't reveal who the person is though, with nothing else to do, we talk about other things finish the rest of our lunch then head back to class.
After school Mi-young wants to hang out but I tell her that I want to spend my night studying. When I get home Chang-soo is cooking dinner, knowing how long he takes to prepare meals I feel that it's best to spend this time to write in my diary really quickly and then start on my homework. I write in my diary everyday when I come home from school, there are a lot of times where I feel frustrated and have no one to vent to simply because that person won't understand. Some days I really feel like I'm getting somewhere with Hae-Jin and I think that I'll be able to go home early or on time but then he acts out and becomes mean or he fights with Jae-juk, There have been a few times where they exchange harsh words or become physical. It's also doesn't make me feel better when Chang-soo is constantly reminding me what I should be doing and how much time I have left, I don't want to worry about those things all the time, I just want to focus on being normal and living a normal life like my classmates. It becomes very stressful.
