Monotone; Chromatic (Kousei x Reader)

Chapter 1

"I'm so sorry, Kousei..." Says a girl.

"She's in a better place now." Says another girl.

"We're all here for you." Says a boy.

All these people... trying to comfort him... this boy...

; kousei and you have talked about twice. It was for a school project. He doesn't seem like a very open person, let alone sociable. But... he seems so pained right now...

Okay with the world knowing so.

You watch as he makes his way past your locker, looking down the entire time.

You could've sworn you saw tears in his eyes.

He runs into the music room, locking the door behind him.

It's as if all these people are the paparazzi or something.

No one bothers to try and get into the music room to comfort him personally.

You have nothing better to do, so you decide to try and comfort the poor boy.

"Arima Kousei was in love with Kaori." Your friend had told you before school today.

It must've been so hard for him when she...

You shake your head regaining focus.

You try the door handle, noticing it's locked.

Instead of knocking, knowing he won't answer, you go into the yard of the school.

The sun is extra bright today, not a cloud in the sky.

You go to the music rooms window, peeking through.

Kousei is at the piano, with his hands on his lap.

He's looking down at the keys.

"What's he doing?" You ask yourself.

You build up the nerves to gently tap on the window.

That startles him, causing him to look up and at... you.

He slowly gets up and walks to the window, opening it.

"C-can I help you?" He asks with a shaky voice.

You look down.

"I, uh... wanted to talk to you." You say.

Why are you so scared to talk to him?

His eyes fixate on yours, a small smile growing across his face.

"Sure. I, uh... you can go through the door, and—"

You cut him off by hopping through the window.

"AHH!!" He screams, you accidentally falling into him.

The two of you fall to the ground.

His glasses slide across the floor.

"S-sorry!" You immediately say.

He begins to laugh.

"It's fine." He smiles.

"Are you sure?" You ask, laughing a bit yourself.

"Yeah... wanna help me find my glasses?" He asks.

You nod, getting off of him.

You didn't even notice you were on top of him till you got up.

You look down and smile a bit at that thought.

"Where did they go..." Kousei says to himself.

A shimmer catches your eye for a split second.

You kneel down and look underneath the piano, pulling them out.

"Found them!" You say.

Kousei turns around and walks towards you.

He reaches for them but you pull away.

"Wait. Let me at least put them on for you, since I was the one who knocked them off and all..." you say.

Kousei nods.

You bring the glasses up to his eye level.

You can feel your heart beating rapidly.

You're afraid to make eye contact with him, so you look to his left as you put them on.

"Thanks." He says softly.

You nod.

He then sits back down at the piano.

As you're about to jump back out the window to leave him at peace, since you've already bugged him enough, you hear the piano.

You stop for a second to catch what song it is he is playing.

"Love's Sorrow." You say under your breath.

You turn around.

Kousei looks over at you.

You can't help but smile at him.

He smiles back.

You decide not to leave just yet, taking a seat underneath the window, watching him from a distance.

He looks so graceful when he plays the piano.

He hits the keys with so much meaning.

Like there's a purpose to every note...

"I wanna learn the piano."
