"W-what?"
"Kousei... I wanna learn to play the piano." You say.
Kousei stops playing.
"Y/N... it takes years to learn the piano." Says Kousei.
"You... you remember my name." You say softly.
Kousei remembers your name? But how...? Why?
He smiles.
"I wouldn't forget it. It has a nice ring to it." He says, his hands still placed on the keys.
You smile and get up, walking towards him.
"You don't have to teach me... it's just... I thought... maybe it could help the both of us." You say.
Kousei looks up at you.
You're so much taller than him when he's sitting down.
You can tell Kousei is in a deep thought right now. He's staring off into the distance with no expression on his face.
"Okay. I'll teach you how to play the piano. Besides, it could help get my mind off things." He says.
"R-really?" You ask in shock.
He nods. "Mhm."
You smile and bend over to hug him.
You began to sob softly.
"Hey... what's wrong?" He asks, hugging you back.
"You believe in me, that's all... you said yes, meaning you do believe in me. Not many people do..." you say.
"I do believe in you, Y/N." He says, pulling away to look you in the eyes.
"Well, let's start then! Here, take a seat beside me." He says joyfully.
You're surprised as to how happy he's able to be, especially after Friday... it's hard to believe it's only been three days since... Kaori's death.
You don't know where to place your fingers at first.
Kousei suddenly grabs your right hand and positions it on the keys.
"Let's learn... Twinkle Twinkle Little Star first." He says.
Kousei plays on the higher scale.
"Repeat after me." He says.
He plays 4 notes.
You watch carefully, and then try it yourself.
You get it spot on.
"Very good!" He says, clapping
The way his eyes squint and cheeks raise when he smiles is adorable...
He pushes his glasses up before continuing.
Before you know it, you two are finished the song.
"There. That's it! You just learned your first song." He says.
"Well, there's one song I could play the intro to before..." you say.
"Oh sorry, I meant your first song with me." He adds.
You look up at him.
"I used to be able to play the intro of Moonlight Sonata Movement #3." You say.
"I love that song... maybe when you finally master the piano, I can teach it to you." He says.
"I'd love that." You reply.
"Now, I'm going to let you play the song by yourself this time, and I'll accompany you with the higher scale." He says.
You nod.
You're a bit nervous to play...
"3... 2... 1." You say to yourself.
You begin to gently hit the keys.
Moments later, Kousei joins in.
His notes are a bit different, considering he is accompanying you.
The two of you sound so beautiful playing together.
You're perfectly in sync.
Shortly after, you finish the song.
"That was—"
"Beautiful." You cut him off.
His eyes widen.
"Y-yeah..." he says.
"Here, I gotta get home to babysit my sister, but I can give you my number?" You ask.
Kousei nods and gives you his phone.
You scroll through to make a new contact, coming across Kaori's.
You grin and feel instant sadness wash over you.
He still has her contact information...
You put your number in and give back his phone, basically pushing it into his chest before jumping back out the window, scraping yourself on a bush.
You feel bad for accidentally coming across Kaori's contact.
You run all the way to the bus stop, which sits right underneath a huge cherry blossom.
The sun is sending orange colours across the sky, tinting everything a shade of light orange.
You look up at the falling pedals of the cherry blossom.
You extend your arm out in front of you to catch one.
A pink pedal twirls down, landing perfectly in your hand.
You bring it close to your face, admiring it.
...
"The season is changing."
