Ashton
"All I'm saying, is that cold as shit and cold as balls are two different levels of cold." Ashton shrugged and took another sip of his beer. You rolled your eyes, "how cold is 'cold as balls' then? Because I wouldn't know." It seemed like a pretty unscientific measurement of temperature to you, but Ashton had been standing by it, asserting that it was now 'cold as balls' since the sun went down.
The wind howled outside as the blizzard raged, you felt rather thankful you were in your heated home instead of being out there with nearly a foot of snow. You cradled your mug of hot cocoa a little closer and looked back over at your boyfriend.
"It's about as cold as it is outside right now," he answered unhelpfully.
You scoffed, watching as the corners of his lips turned up at your annoyance with his answer. You did not get a chance to respond before something rather drastic, which caused a change in topic, occurred. Namely, the lights went out, the electronic devices turned off, and most importantly, the heat stopped. You'd lost power.
"Shit," you said instead. You pulled your blanket closer and peered through the darkness, trying to make out Ashton's profile. It seemed to be way darker than usual, and the blizzard sounded louder and closer than before. You did not like that development one bit. "Babe?"
"One sec," Ashton grunted and then his phone screen came on, you could see the glow illuminate his face briefly and then the flashlight came on, "got it."
"You should save your battery, you can't charge your phone now." You squinted as the beam of light settled right over you, "stop it!"
"Well we need light somehow. Do we even own a real flashlight?" Ashton stood up, the light bobbed across the room as he approached you.
You couldn't remember any flashlights in the house. They'd never made it on any of your shopping lists and you doubted Ashton was any different. "No."
"Well what's the another option?" He huffed and walked past you into the kitchen. You saw the beam of light flash over the cabinets, and then Ashton pulled open the one that held your cereal bowls.
"Babe, candles?" You snickered as he ducked down to look at you.
"You're so smart," he giggled and shut the cabinet, "this is why I'm dating you."
"I am definitely a genius." You agreed and watched as he walked out of the kitchen in search of candles, "wrong way!"
"No yeah, I knew that," he called as he turned back around and walked back to the cabinet where you kept your stash of scented candles. You found them calming to both watch and smell when you were stressed out. In your opinion, there was nothing better than watching a little flame and breathing in the scent of cinnamon or lavender to help wash away your worries. Ashton thought it was weird, but it did mean you kept candles in the house and that was what was really important.
"Found 'm!" He pulled three cinnamon scented candles out of the cabinet along with a box of matches.
"Put one on the mantle, and one on the end table, and one on the coffee table." You opted to supervise instead of help since it was really a one person job anyway. Ashton rolled his eyes, but did put the candles where you suggested, and when he lit them you could at least see the confines of the room, if only dimly.
