Soulmate AU where there's a timer countdown to when you hear your soulmate's voice for the first time
Ashton
00:02:04:12:45:12Two and a half weeks and you'd find him. You had a short countdown relatively speaking, some people had to wait well into their twenties or even thirties before they met their soulmates, but you had only eighteen years. Time went by so slow in the moment but looking back it seemed like only last week you had years left.
Now there was just two weeks. You could hardly contain the immense amount of excitement and anxiety flowing through your system. What would he say? Where would you meet him? What would he look like?
You couldn't wait to find out.
...

Barely over a minute left and you were thoroughly confused. You hadn't changed your plans, and so your Saturday had been like any other and you were laying in your room mid-afternoon not doing much of anything, just listening to music and not doing your homework.
You stared down at your arm and sighed as the numbers kept counting down and nothing happened. What was going on?
00:00:00:00:00:17
You could feel the panic bubbling up inside of you. Was this some cruel joke, did you really not have a soulmate at all? Everything was the same as it always was.
00:00:00:00:00:10
The door downstairs was locked, you were home alone, unless someone was going to come up to the door but there was no way you'd hear them in ten seconds. There wasn't enough time.
00:00:00:00:00:03
Tears were burning hot in your eyes as intense despair and loneliness. There were no voices in your room. No time for you to hear any. The only noise besides yourself trying not to hyperventilate was...
00:00:00:00:00:01
The song.
00:00:00:00:00:00
Your timer stopped and flashed green and you held your breath as you listened intently to a song Spotify must have recommended while you were panicking and hadn't even realized started.
Scared of moving on, but you're already gone
It was just supposed to be background music, but it wasn't. It couldn't have been. That had to have been your soulmate's voice. Moving at a speed you hadn't realized you possessed, you lurched forward and grabbed your laptop, nearly dropping it as your shaky hands pulled Spotify back up and you squinted through the tears to read the band name.
"Five Seconds of Summer," you mumbled to yourself, feeling an immense amount of relief when you realized that you weren't alone at all. You rewound the song to where it was when your timer stopped, and pulled up the album art.
Scared of moving on, but you're already gone
You paused it and let out a shuddery breath. One thing was for sure, no matter which band member was the one singing you weren't about to be disappointed. You set your laptop back down and deflated into a puddle of frayed nerves. Out of habit, you glanced down at the inside of your left arm, the spot where your timer had always been.
You nearly passed out at what you saw. Where your timer used to glow through your skin there were words instead, the first words you'd heard him say, you realized. But more importantly, under the quote there was a new timer and it was counting down.
